The Dallas Cowboys will take on the visiting San Francisco 49ers at 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox) Sunday afternoon. The 49ers are coming off of their third straight NFC Championship Game appearance, while the Cowboys are fresh off of their third straight 8-8 season.
Despite each team's prior successes and failures, both teams start anew today.
The 49ers are missing two of their most dynamic players on defense in Aldon Smith and NaVorro Bowman because of suspension and injury, respectively. The Cowboys are also missing some key defensive players in Orlando Scandrick and Terrell McClain. This game may come down to who can compensate for the injuries the best.
The key for the Cowboys will be controlling the line of scrimmage on offense and defense.
The Cowboys defense has to stop the run on a regular basis to force Colin Kaepernick to become a passer. If the defense can do that, it will surprise a lot of fans and pundits alike. On offense, the Cowboys need to establish the run and get Dez Bryant involved early. It will be paramount that they utilize their best weapons early and often throughout the season.
