Tony Romo stepped onstage Thursday at the Nancy Lieberman Foundation Gala and acknowledged two things.

The first was that his life is coming to a close, as evidenced by the lifetime achievement award Romo held in his hand. Secondly, he addressed the little thing in the back of every Dallas Cowboys fan’s mind at every waking minute: the elusive Super Bowl victory he’s yet to even smell.

Jared Dubin of CBS Sports (h/t BlackSportsOnline.com's Robert Littal) spotted footage of Romo’s remarks.

The quarterback quickly tossed in a promise as he closed his speech. He thanked the academy—er, foundation—for the honor and left the audience with something a little less bland than a “Go Cowboys!”

“This award is very meaningful to me, mostly because I get to be associated with this and to be associated with Nancy,” Romo said. “It’s incredible and I really appreciate you, and we’re going to win a Super Bowl next year. Thank you.”

Boooom.

You heard the man. Super Bowl or bust this year. He’s calling his shot right now.

For those keeping track, Romo’s already on the hook for a Lombardi Trophy in 2016. If he wants to keep his promise to Duke superstar Jahlil Okafor, he’ll have to pray Jerry Jones and Co. scoop up a certain disgraced running back to help him bring home the goods this coming season.

Dan is on Twitter. No matter how it turns out, the NFL needs to see postseason Romo again.
