BRAD JOHNSON ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS

http://www.***BANNED-URL***/sharedcontent/dws/img/03-07/0306bj.jpg

First of all...Brad Johnson has agreed to answer your fan questions. But that's not the best part. The BEST part is .....they are going to get featured on his official website....http://www.bradjohnson14.com/ He is excited to be doing this and I think it's a great way to welcome him to our team and show him what we're made of.

But first...a little bit about Brad...

Brad played at Charles D. Owen High School in Black Mountain, North Carolina and at Florida State University. He was a high school All-American in Football and Basketball.

Most recently with the Minnesota Vikings, Brad is widely acclaimed for leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers past the Oakland Raiders in a 48-21 rout during Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003, where he threw for 2 touchdowns and over 200 yards.

Brad has one of the top 20 career passer ratings in NFL history. He holds a 67-44 career record as a starter, currently the 3rd best win-loss ratio among active QBs with over 50 starting games. He has also connected on over 60% of his passes for last 12 straight seasons, the first quarterback in NFL history to do this[1] (Joe Montana & Steve Young previously held the record with eight straight seasons).

He has been twice selected to Pro Bowl: in 1999 and 2002. In 2003, he was named to USA Today's All-Joe team which recognizes the NFL's most unsung players.

He has eclipsed the 3,000-yard passing mark five times.

And without further ado, we present and welcome...Brad Johnson....

Brad, you are one of the more accurate quarterbacks historically with a 1.52 TD-Int Ratio(prior to last year). What do you think was the biggest factor in throwing only 9 TDs to 15 interceptions where the prior year you threw 12 TDs and only 4 interceptions? Also, what do you think the best attribute you will be able to bring to the Cowboys will be?

Hey Brad! Welcome to Dallas and congrats on joining one of the elite franchises in sports history. (Yeah, I'm a fan).

My question for you involves a statement you made shortly after you signed with the Cowboys and I was hoping you could clear it up. You said something to the effect that you didn't intend to be a mentor to Tony Romo. What do you see your role as, not just as a back up QB but with regards to supporting Romo as the starter?

Again, thanks for taking the time to answer our questions and I am sure you will do the Star proud. Good to have you on board.

Can you explain your experience in NFL Europe? (How it affected your career, how it was to be a long way from home, etc.)

How did you cleanse your soul after spending 2 years in Washington? Do you still feel a film of filth?

What pushes you to continue playing after having already won a Superbowl later in your career? Is it the love of the game even if you are on the sidelines? A last paycheck?

Who is the best WR you have ever thrown to? (Yourself included)

Hello Brad. It's nice to have you on board. The average NFL career for QBs is just around 4 years I believe. You didn't get a real shot until your 5th year and now are a 16 year veteran. If you had to detail one attribute that kept teams interested in you until you got your chance, what would it be?

First off Mr. Johnson, welcome to Dallas and thank you for taking my question. There are many in the national media that have claimed your Buccaneers team won the Super Bowl on the merits of it's defense, in spite of it's offense and belittle your contributions to said team. Is that something that bothers you, or are you able to dismiss it as sour grapes and/or jealousy? Do you ever pause to think of what your legacy as an NFL QB will be, and what you want it to be?

Welcome to the Big D. Do you prefer sitting in the pocket or rolling out to your right? And why?

Welcome Brad Johnson. This is certainly a good way to start a positive relationship with us Cowboys fans. Are you at all concerned with the difference in quarterbacking style between yourself and Tony Romo? You are strictly a drop back pocket passer, while Romo is very active in the pocket and excells rolling out. Will it cause Garrett to implement two different style play calling charts for you and Romo and will it cause any problems with the offense in regard to practicing (extra time) or playcalling in games?

Hey Brad..

Welcome to the Cowboys.

My question for you would be what did you take from your experience in winning the SB in Tampa and how can that help your situation here in Dallas with this team..?

When I say 'what did you take from your experience', I don't mean the fact that you won and got your ring, etc. Those are certainly great things.

But what I'm asking is, what did you see in Tampa the year before you won it and what happened primarily in the season following that kicked the team over the edge and benefitted your play as QB..?

Was it changes in coaches, players committments, team chemistry, adjustments in game plans, picking up a few key FA's..?

I'd be interested in what you saw, what you recognize as necessary ingredients especially as a featured player and QB as leader of the offense.

What will you and what should we be looking for as fans to gauge where Dallas is at with getting to the next level, much as Tampa did during your run there...?

BTW..I admire and appreciate your abilities having watched you play here in South Florida many times in the past. Dallas fans have certainly been fortunate to have you available to help our team right now.

Best of luck to you in 2007.

Thanks.

Brad,
How does it feel to come here to Dallas and try to replace the man, the myth, the legend of Drew Bledsoe? You have some awfully big shoes to fill my friend.

I'm telling you, this guy has spent his entire career not getting the amount of recognition for being the caliber of player that he is.

His years in Minnesota were most enjoyable and memorable. I can remember changing the channel from Brett Favre to watch him throw the ball to Chris Carter and Co. His mind for the game is brilliant. Make no mistake. He will be an asset.

Welcome aboard, Brad! I've always admired your craftiness and accuracy, as well as your command on the field.

Mr. Johnson, what do you think were the factors that played in to Minnesota overlooking your obvious talent and previous accomplishments?

I know that you had some injuries along the way, but what ultimately let to the switch to Culpepper?

Good day, Mr. Johnson, and welcome to the Dallas Cowboys. In 1992, you were drafted in the 9th round by the Vikings. Since then, you have enjoyed a successful career, which includes a Super Bowl victory with the Buccaneers. With the addition of compensatory picks in the current draft, a player picked as the 227th overall selection (as you were in ’92) would manage to land on some team’s roster within the 7th round. Being a late rounder yourself, what advice would you give college quarterbacks concerning their personal and/or professional expectations before entering the draft, who are otherwise projected to be selected in the late rounds or not drafted at all?

The only reason they won that superbowl was because of their defense. That one safety or corner had like 3 picks in the superbowl that there proves defense wins championships.

Brad, welcome to a team with multiple Pro Bowl talent to throw the ball to. I read this great quote of yours, "It's better to be prepared and not have an opportunity, than to have an opportunity and not be prepared."

After reading what you've said about Jason Garrett, with whom you worked previously, I'd like to get your early impressions of the following people:

Tony Romo
Wade Phillips
Jerry Jones
Tony Sparano

Thanks

And thanks Deb.

My question is how do you keep from punching people in the mouth when they say things like that?

No, seriously, can you give us the secret to keeping your body in such great shape after all these years? Quarterbacks tend to take a beating and most can't sustain a career as long as yours -- is is just pure determination?

Also, when you change systems, do you just lock yourself in a room and memorize the playbook? How does that process work?
