The Cowboys have a second-half problem. There’s no debating that. As many times as people like to say, “The numbers speak for themselves,” they seldom do. There’s almost always nuance. But it only takes simple math (the only kind your Humble Correspondent is allowed near) to see that in the games they’ve lost, the Cowboys have been wide-eyed spectators in the second half.

Against Denver, the most inexplicable game of this bizarre season, they trailed at halftime 21-10 and were outscored in the second half 21-7. But throw that one out. Please, for the love of Pete, throw that one out.

They led the Rams at halftime 24-16, and were outscored in the second half 19-6. Against the Packers, led 21-12, lost the second half 23-10. Atlanta: trailed 10-7, lost the second half 17-0. Eagles, 9-7, and lost the second half 30-0.

And in case you’re wondering, yes, in all five games they’ve won, they won the second half. Never trailed at halftime in those games, tied only 7-7 with Arizona.

++++++++++++

Garrett can't make even the most simple of adjustments. Against the Eagles, even a child can see that Garrett should have healed Tyron and Sean Lee at halftime and brought Zeke off the suspension list for the 3rd Quarter. How does this guy keep his job?

we run out of juice pretty fast. our crappy team can only compete by overexerting themselves and are spent by the second half.

So in the games we won where we won the 2nd half did we make adjustments or did the other team not make adjustments?

Because it's clear in all the games we lose we don't adjust..... or something as the logic here goes.

I just want to know if people are positing that at halftime Jason flips a coin and decides whether to make adjustments or not?

There is also an argument to be made that if the coaching was horrible, we wouldn't be leading at halftime against GB, ATL and the Eagles when those teams clearly had more talent on the field.

I'm not trolling the haters but... well, OK. I am.

We don't have to adjust against mediocre teams because you can outtalent them and stay in the league. Teams with just as much talent, if not more and coachoes who DO adjust will come back and wreck you, just like we've seen with all the teams we've played with winning records with the exception of KC.

Oh ok so this is the argument now? After the fact we can tell if adjustments are made based on the talent of the team we are facing.

Got it!

We're also lucky those coaches of teams with equal or more talent don't actually prepare for the first half of games against us because what would we do then?!

Did you sit through the Atlanta game and in the first half not think maybe the team needed to make an adjustment to protect the quarterback because the left tackle could not block him? Even the announcers were saying that.

I'm pretty weak at pot banging tantrums. I actually think the game is about talent and execution. Strange, huh?

Execution. So how does that work? They draw up a plan and say go execute it.

Atlanta, their plan was for the left tackle to block the defensive end and give Dak enough time to work. That failed because they guy could not execute that plan.

So in your estimation, at half time what should be done? Since your position is merely go execute, then the left tackle just needs to block the guy. Which is what the team essentially did. They brought a tight in over once, but abandoned that.

The results is the guy could not stop the defensive end who got 5 sacks.

An adjustment would have been to chip the defensive end with a running back on some plays. Move a tight end on some plays. Maybe throw screens to that guys side. Stretch the offense horizontally to force that guy to stop rushing straight up the field. You saw this in the first half of the Eagles game.

But then half time comes and the other team makes an adjustment and Dallas becomes neutered.

It isn't as black and white as you paint it.

Love how the homers still try to defend this coaching staff. Select people..broadcasters, opposing players, coaches..have been calling out Garrett's coaching for years. Now it's a national story. They can't keep blowing leads, especially at home, and then turn around and make excuses and apologies. The end is near, it's just a matter of time now.
