Bradie James on last defensive play

After the sack by Ware and recovery by Ratliff, Bradie James clearly removes his helmet in celebration as he goes to congratulate Ware. Now if that penalty is called, as it should've been, would that have given the Saints 15 yds and another offensive play? Or since it was after the play, the Cowboys would've kept the ball and moved back 15 yds?

I seem to remember a similar play in Cleveland years ago where a Cleveland defender(Rudd?) removed and tossed his helmet in celebration after a desperation 4th down play and got penalized. The offensive team got another untimed down.

Either way not a smart play from 56...

The Cleveland player did it while the play was still going.

celebrating before the play was over. The Alabama kid did the same thing after he blocked a field goal, not called in the SEC though.

It's called in the SEC... unless the teams are Florida or Alabama.

yeah as long as it was after the play it doesnt matter.
This. The exact same thing happened in a game earlier this year and the penalty was enforced, but the offensive team did not get the ball back.

The play was still going on when Rudd threw his helmet. He thought he had sacked the QB when in fact the QB made a lateral toss to another player who kept the play alive. So Rudd threw his helmet while the ball was still live.

In James case, we would have kept the ball.

Tashard Choice also got away with spiking the ball after converting a 3rd down.

Fans can't complain about the officiating this week.

did he really spike the ball, or are you going off what the announcer said? I havent watched the reply yet but I didnt see him do it in the live play.

He definitely knocked the ball away.

I think the thing that saved him is that Miles alertly grabbed it before it got away and handed it to the ref.

1. The conversion still would have stood. They basically call it a 1st down and then penalize the team 5 yards. So if it was converted to the Saints 15 yard line, it would be a delay of game penalty, 1st and 10 from the Saints 20.

2. Miles 'caught' the spike according to the announcers and gave it immediately back to the ref.

what exactly did he "get away with??"

It'd still been 1st and goal, only it would have been back 5yds.

At least the other team finally did get called for one obvious offensive holding, and for the first time in weeks Roy Williams got nailed down field and it was called rather than ignored. I guess thats progress.

He got away with a delay of game penalty - stupid move. Miles is a smart player.

Watch us get totally screwed by the refs this week in Washington, it will be considered "make up calls" for the Saints game.

Arent we still the most penalized team in the league this year, or at least to top 3???

It would have been a penalty and our ball because it changed possession. The Cleveland situation was different because the ball hadn't changed possession and you can't end the game on a defensive penalty.
