Olson is pretty damn good imo. We will see how Tom does.
For some reason it seems a lot here don't like Olson, but like yourself, I find Olson pretty good as a NFL commentator.

Been in NC for over 20 years now and I don't pay extra for TV, so I was stuck with the Panthers on a lot of Sundays. Although I never cared for the panthers at a fan level, over time I found myself liking Olson as one of the few players I liked on the Panthers.

Tom has about as much charisma as a wet noodle. Curious to see how he does in the broadcast booth. Can he be worse than Olson? We'll see.....
I agree. He seems to be a person that has a dry sense of humor and a different take on things than most people. He seems more of an introvert than an extravert.

Conversely, I think that Rayne Dakota will be pretty good in the booth. He's comfortably articulate and very at ease in front of the media.

I was listening to NFL Radio and they were mentioning that since the GOAT is applying for part ownership in the Raiders, he is greatly restricted in what he can say during broadcasts. One example they gave was that he is not allowed to criticize the officials or another team on air. They also mentioned that he is not permitted to be in another team's practice facility, is not permitted to witness practice and is not permitted to attend broadcast production meetings, either in person or virtually.

Can he start his broadcasting career in 2025 please?

I think being an NFL commentator is a lot harder than it appears. Sometimes I think too many TV exec’s who hire former NFL players for the TV booth think that a player’s on-field success and popularity translates to the booth.

Some examples of what I mean:
  • Jason Witten was a great player and very popular Cowboy. Terrible broadcaster.
  • Emmiitt Smith is the all time NFL rushing leader and a great human being. Terrible broadcaster.
  • Robert Griffin III was a talented player with an injury shortened career. He was good in the studio shows but IMO not that great in the booth.
  • Joe Namath was a HOF QB with a SB ring. IMO he was terrible in the booth.
There are some exceptions of course.
  • Dandy Don Meredith was an excellent NFL QB and became an Emmy award winning broadcaster.
  • I think HOF er Troy Aikman is very good in the booth. (Makes me laugh when Cowboys fans say he hates the Cowboys when he’s just being fair)
  • Merlin Olson was a HOF DL and also became an outstanding booth commentator.
  • Probably the greatest NFL TV broadcaster and former player was the great Pat Summerall who was a kicker in the NFL but his broadcasting career exceeded his playing career.
I don’t know what Brady will be like in the booth. I’m certainly going to be tuned in Sunday. If we win Sunday, many Cowboys fans will like him. If we lose Sun, many fans will say he hates the Cowboys and loves the Browns, lol.
