You need a good kicker. That's just a fact. Whenever the Cowboys have had a lousy kicker, it's added unnecessary extra stress. Remember when Maher had the yips? Remember Vanderjagt? Excellent kickers we've had in the past are Raphael Septien and Dan Bailey, and Aubrey is right up there with him. He's not perfect. He's missed some really long ones lately, but those 60+ field goals are really hard to make. We've got a good one. I watched the Rams/Eagles game. The Rams are a good team, but their kicker sucks. He missed a 47-yarder. Then, in the fourth quarter with his team trailing and without that much time left, he made a kickoff go out of bounds, giving the Eagles the ball on the 40. The Rams defense bailed them out fortunately and the Rams were able to get the win. But to kick the ball out of bounds when your team's trailing and needs to get the ball back one more time -- that's just unacceptable. That could easily have cost his team the game. Aubrey is way better than that guy. He hasn't done as well lately with the 60+ attempts, but he's a solid kicker, and he might very well get back to hitting those super long ones like he was for a while.
The Cowboys have mismanaged a lot of the things over the last couple decades. The kicking game is not one of them. This organization has its act together for the kicking game at least.
