Aubrey has also set the record for most touchbacks by a kicker in a season.
Did not know that one, but I find it amusing when he hits the crossbar or puts it through the uprights.

Let’s smoke commanders but kick 5 FGs. One of them from 50+… This man is feeling it. He missed his first attempt and afterwards instead of getting in an immediate funk he picked himself up and doubled down on his practice and hard work pays off.
That was an extra point. He's missed 3 extra points this year. He hasn't missed a FG.

Yet.

I wanted Aubrey brought in, along with the other USFL kicker, who was from Michigan, but I thought we had a better shot of Aubrey since he was from Texas. When we didn't bring in the other kicker, I wanted to bring Maher back to compete with Aubrey.

The reports from Oxnard didn't bother me because the conditions there are tough for kickers.
Your 2nd paragraph is exactly what I was telling people. There is one end of the field that is brutal at Oxnard.

I’ll be 1 of the very few posters on this board to admit they were wrong….I thought the approach to K this offseason was going to be a disaster and cost the team. Touché to the guy in the organization that found Aubrey

He seems to have settled in on the extra points, too. I think that was just the product of a young player taking those kicks for granted and not staying on top of his form, taking his time. Someone pointed out that they were after defensive scores, so he wasn't prepping before he went out there. Of course, his first one was overkicked because of nerves, I believe.

Funny thing .. guess who's second in the NFL in qualified kicking percentage this season?

Nick Folk .. yes, that one ..

He's 29 of 30 on field goals (5 of 6 on 50+ kicks) and 24 of 26 on extra points.

Aubrey's been a pot o' gold this season, and I hope his excellent work will be recognized & rewarded appropriately.

Although I still don't understand how he managed to missed those EPs?

The best kicking season ever basically.
Exactly. What a year the kid is having! Considering how nervous we all were heading into the season— just an incredible performance.

Guts and nails. Would love to see him nail that 70 yarder one day and enshrine himself in the HOF before he even retires from the sport lol

They were each after defensive scores and so he wasn't warmed up and ready for them.

This came from a Gehlken tweet I can't post because of a banned link.

This is unbelievable.

-

Most field goals in an NFL season without a miss

37: Mike Vanderjagt, Colts, 2003
35: Gary Anderson, Vikings, 1998
35: Brandon Aubrey*, Cowboys, 2023

Attempts from 50-plus yards that season

Vanderjagt: one
Anderson: two
Aubrey: nine

*One game remaining
Hoping he gets 3 on Sunday.

The old record for most successful field goals to start a career was 18. He’s one good kick from doubling that. No telling where he’ll be when his run ends. His record is so far out there that I don’t think his record will ever be broken.

It should be noted that Gary Anderson went on to miss a kick that year in the NFC Championship Game that cost the Vikings a win and sent the Falcons to the Super Bowl.
That is my biggest fear
