FRISCO, Texas –The Cowboys’ 53-man roster is never final. Not when executive vice president Stephen Jones tells us, over and over, that player acquisition is a 365-day-a-year proposition.

The Cowboys have already made a couple of tweaks since Saturday’s cut to 53 players, and more moves will be made throughout the season. But, as of late Sunday, here’s a closer look at the current 53:

Quarterback (3)

Dak Prescott - Cooper Rush - Mike White

Breakdown: From a numbers standpoint, Cooper Rush didn’t come close to replicating his league-best six preseason touchdown passes from last year. In four games, he threw one TD and four interceptions. But the Cowboys still have Rush penciled in as Prescott’s backup and White, their fifth-round draft pick, in the No. 3 spot. White looked more comfortable and decisive in the final two preseason games.

Running Back (3)

Ezekiel Elliott - Rod Smith - Jamize Olawale (FB)

Breakdown: Keeping two true running backs seems light, but it’s no secret Elliott will play the vast majority of the offensive snaps. In a pinch, Olawale can probably play some tailback. Wide receiver Tavon Austin has 184 career carries as a mismatch player. And the Cowboys signed Darius Jackson to the practice squad as insurance.

Still refuse to believe we're going into the season with 3 QBs.

So, we've learned tonight that Brown is going to IR, and Thompson takes his WR slot.

We're given reason to believe that Jones is also going to IR... and perhaps Brian Price gets re-signed to take that slot.

And, I continue to maintain that Rush or White is going to be waived soon, but perhaps after the others' PS squads are slightly more settled than tonight... and that in that roster slot, I look for that free safety we've been anticipating all this time... whether "that" one from SEA or some other, but someone with the credentials to actually compete with Xavier as a starter.

So, then, the last two PS slots are filled with the 3rd QB and, perhaps, Edwards (though I've seen debate as to whether he's PS eligible at this point).

Addendum... I think Robinson's slot on the roster is precarious once Xavier actually gets back... conjecture here says that CB Thomas or White gets resigned.

I agree with you. I did not see enough from those two QBs to warrant two roster potions. I did not see enough progression when comparing two preseasons. I would look on waivers to find a better option.

The current 3 QBs vs 2 RBs situation can’t be the “settled” roster. It’s screams more moves are about to happen.

They wont be going into the Season with Zeke + R.Smith as RBs and only 1 PS RB.

They arent even Close to finishing the roster me think

It would be surprising to see Dallas make a change with any of our QB's. We are playing real games starting this weekend.

Its too late.

BTW, keeping 3 QBs is still surprising. I think it sends a message to Dak.

First, don't know how they're doing things necessarily this year, but of course, Monday is the normal off-day, so I'd assume they're starting the normal routine in earnest. Second, I think you'll see several teams including us making some moves yet today that didn't get done yesterday for a variety of reasons. Jmo.
