Jayron Kearse – DS – Clemson

Jayron is a third year junior and two year starter who is rumored to be entering the 2016 NFL Draft. Has good bloodlines, as his uncle (Jevon Kearse) and cousin (Phillip Buchanon) have both played in the NFL. Got considerable playtime as a freshman with three starts, 55 total tackles and 4 interceptions. As a sophomore he was credited with 67 tackles, 3.0 sacks and two interceptions. Going into the playoff, he has 52 total tackles and one interception.

Size –

6045 – 220 – 4.50 (all estimates)

Strong Points –

Productive, has great size and length. Good to very good overall athletic ability. Stays low in his pedal has a smooth turn and can transition quickly. Can play man coverage and shows awareness and range in zone. Very good ball skills and hands. Good but not an overly aggressive tackler. Effective as a pass rusher on blitzes. Instinctive with good reactions.

Weak Points –

Not a burner. I felt he played more aggressively in 2014. Flashes as a big hitter but you don’t see it all the time. Will miss some tackles. Not consistently take good angles to the ball.

Summation

Kearse is a big time talent but not a big time player. I felt his overall play fell off in 2015 over 2014. He has the tools to be an outstanding safety in the NFL. He is a smart, alert and instinctive player who is seldom out of position He just didn’t make plays the way he did a year ago. May be better served by staying in school another year.

Agree with that part. I didn't see alert or instinctive for Kearse. Looked late to react in the videos I watched and kind of stiff. Sean Lee is instinctive. Earl Thomas is. That's the bar to me. Kearse isn't anywhere near there.

Not a fan as a Safety, but maybe WLB in these new era hybrid S-LBers like LeVonte David, Shaq Thompson, Mark Barron, Ray Ray Armstrong, I agree he should stay in school though. Reminds more too much of what we already have.

Definitely see LB in Kearse's future. If he can get up to 235ish he could be a damn good 1 too
