Breaking down the schedule

I'm not one bit afraid of the Jets. They're a good team, but their offense doesn't scare me one bit. They are FAR from explosive on that side of the ball. I think we have the potential to score a lot more points than the J-E-T-S.

Definition of JEST

1: an utterance (as a jeer or quip) intended to be taken as mockery or humor

9-7 is a fair assessment. We have too many questions(OL, new defense) going in tot the season. If the OL gels and the defense learns the new system quickly, we may do better but that's a big if. Also, it's possible that Romo may take few games to get the rust off from not playing in a real game for a while.

The Cardinals really? Yeah Fitz is a beast, but what has Kolb proven? Nada. Kolb is a mediocre QB until he proves otherwise. 10-6 is the worst case scenario.

The best thing about the schedule is playing the Giants twice and the Eagles once in the final 4 games. By then, the Rob Ryan defense will be as fully installed as it is going to get.

I'm really not sure what to expect from the defense, but in the two Cleveland games that I watched last year, I saw the Browns do a pretty decent job of frustrating Matt Ryan and Drew Brees with a bunch of guys that wouldn't sniff the field if they were on the Cowboys' roster. It will be interesting to see how Eli fares, particularly since he seemed to have some of his best games against the Cowboys over the last 3-4 years.

I'm not expecting miracles, but I think we've gotten used to thinking that the defense isn't really that good when it is loaded with talented guys. I expect to see some improvement on that side of the ball.

The one thing that makes me feel good about this season is how easy our schedule is. Complete opposite of last year.

And I'm not writing off Week 1 as a loss, like some others.

I agree.

I think the Jets is a complete swing game.
If we win week 1 on the road against an 11-5 team we are truly set up for success. We could finish the first half with a special record.

Games are much tougher down the stretch and the Eagles are a quality team to be sure. All in all I think we have a shot do quite well but I wouldn't push us forward as NFCE favorites.

I am sitting at 9 wins with a chance to move forward based upon additional free agent activity.

I actually disagree there.
I'd rather play those teams early while the defense is unknown to them.
I'd rather shEli and Dogkiller have less tape to see of what we do.
One of the advantages we should have is confusing QBs. That confusion will be a bit less each week by theory.
The guy I'd least like to play first if Rob's brother who no doubt knows the schemes Rob uses well.

All that said having a soft early schedule and building early wins puts tons of pressure on those teams to keep pace and stay healthy or risk playing us with very little on the line.

I actually think the Jets game is close to a no-lose situation for us. The way I see it, all the pressure is on them to continue their rise to a Superbowl team. It's in their house where their fans are expecting the world this year, and Rex's mouth is only adding fuel to that fire.

I think we could easily win, because somehow I just can't buy that they're as good as they were last year. Remember, the year before they don't even make the playoffs without the Colts throwing a meaningless late-season game. And Sanchez still doesn't impress me much.

So I do think that game is a coin flip, but if we lose, it won't hurt us much. We could and should run off a string of wins after that anyway.

By game day I'll probably have us winning by 20:)

The Jets are a quality defense who plays ugly ball. I think the game will be very close and a toss up. Sanchez is oddly effective and Rex responds to Sanchez with his defense as well as any coach in football.

Schedule 2011

9/11 @ NYJ ------W
9/18 @ SF ------W
9/26 vs. Was ----W
10/2 vs. Det -----W
week 5 Bye Week
10/16 @ NE ------L
10/23 vs. StL ----W
10/30 @ Phi ----L
11/6 vs. Sea -----W
11/13 vs. Buf ----W
11/20 @ Was ----W
11/24 vs. Mia ----W
12/4 @ Ari -----W
12/11 vs. NYG ---L
12/17 @ TB ----W
12/24 vs. Phi -----W
Loss @ NYG ------L

As it stands I have us going 12-4 and that is being very optimistic. I usually assume that we split games within the division but this year I think we can sweep the skins. A more realistic outlook will be to assume that will lose 2-3 additional games. If i'm to venture a guess where those loses will come from i would say vs. Jets, Phi/NYG, and one of the other seemingly easy match-ups. So in the end, i see us going 9-7 or 10-6. To sum up, I have no freaking idea.
