Pacman Jones will be allowed to participte in the Cowboys' OTA practices this week.

IRVING, Texas - When the Cowboys take the field Tuesday for the third week of OTA practices, it's likely not every player will be participating.
One player who is expected to be there is Adam "Pacman" Jones.

After serving a one-year suspension for violating the NFL's conduct policy, Jones has been reinstated by Commissioner Roger Goodell, although on a limited basis.

Goodell is allowing Jones to participate in the OTA (organized team activities), which begin Tuesday at Valley Ranch, running through Thursday. Jones will also be allowed to participate in training camp and the preseason games.

However, a final determination on Jones' full reinstatement has not been announced. It's possible the cornerback could miss some of the 2008 regular season. Goodell informed Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Monday that a final announcement on Pacman's status will be issued before Sept. 1.

"This limited reinstatement is a step in the process," Jerry Jones said in a statement. "Adam is aware of the things that need to be done in order to take the next step."

The Cowboys sent out a release Monday stating that Goodell has told Pacman Jones: "That his continued participation inn the NFL depends on demonstrating that he can conduct himself in a lawful and reliable manner.

Jones will be expected to continue the personal conduct program that has been established for him by the NFL and the Cowboys to avoid further adverse involvement with law enforcement." Since being drafted by the Titans in 2005, Jones has been arrested six different times on a variety of charges.

I'm ambivalent...On the one hand I'll be able talk a lot of trash to my friends who are Giants fans following the Cowboys sweep of the series this season, on the other hand if the Pats get to the SB I may rue this day...

If the Pats go to and lose ANOTHER SB... you wont have to worry about a thing.

The score will read.

Cheating - 3 SB wins
Not Cheating - 2 SB losses

:laugh2:

Where did he say he couldn't? He clearly says final decision before September 1st, which is before we play Cleveland.

Jerry can't hold his hand 24 hours a day. For the most part Adam or Pacman what ever you want to call him will have to change his ways if he plans on being around. I doubt very much that another screw up will he see yet another chance.

well, i think if he went 4-5 years w/o issue he may get some leeway, but i do agree he's got his hands full of staying straight till then to show he can.

so now we're down to a 5th round pick from tennessee, right? or not till 9/1? then if he plays a down for us, it's a 6th or does he have to make it the whole year to drop it to a 6th we owe tennessee?

i've killed those brain cells in a weekend alcohol coup, so just trying to recap how that changes the trade, if at all, yet.

Because it has been speculated that Pacman might still be suspended for the first 2 games of the season.

We will know before Sept. 1st if he faces additional suspension or not.

Burnett weighs in

Albert Breer E-mail News tips

Kevin Burnett -- now a ***BANNED-URL*** guy like the rest of us -- has known Pacman Jones since the combine prior to both players' rookie year. So he was happy to hear this afternoon that Jones will be allowed to join the club this week.

"He deserves it, and the reason why is, another infraction and he's gone," Burnett said. "That's implied. They're basically saying, 'Yeah, you can go back out there, but you know that if anything happens, you're gone.' I do know he's a great player, and he'll be an asset to the team."

Burnett also thinks that since Pacman's on thin ice with the league, and will be for the foreseeable future, that the Cowboys won't need to step in and interject in his off-field life.

"I don't think we're going to have to do anything," Burnett said. "I've said it before. He's on his last leg with the league. I hate for it to be like that, but that's the case. And I don't think he'll do anything to be jeopardizing his career."

One thing that most players who have been around Pacman in the past have said is that he's not a disruption in a team setting. Likewise, Burnett says he's never had a problem getting along with the embattled corner.

"I've known him for a little bit, and in the time I've been around him, I've got nothing but positive things to say about him," Burnett said. "I'm glad he's on our team. I've always thought highly of him as a player, and it's always a plus to play with other good players.

NFL REINSTATES PACMAN, SORT OF
Posted by Mike Florio on June 2, 2008, 5:44 p.m.
Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones has received permission from the NFL to participate in offseason workouts, training camp, and the preseason. However, he has not yet been reinstated to participate in regular-season games.

The NFL said as follows, via a statement: “In a letter to Jones, Commissioner Goodell wrote that a final determination on his reinstatement for the 2008 regular season will be made by September 1. Commissioner Goodell told Jones that his continued participation in the NFL depends on demonstrating that he can conduct himself in a lawful and reliable manner. Jones will be expected to continue the personal conduct program established for him by the NFL and the Cowboys and to avoid further adverse involvement with law enforcement.”

In other words, if Jones stays out of trouble between now and September 1, he’ll be permitted to participate in regular-season games. This halfway-house-type move makes sense; if Pacman gets in trouble again, he simply doesn’t get back in — and the league doesn’t look foolish for taking a chance on him prematurely.

There’s also a belief in some league circles that Pacman’s presence on the team owned by Jerry Jones helped grease the skids for Pacman’s return. Commissioner Roger Goodell reports to the 32 NFL owners, and few have as much juice as Jerry Jones.
