I questioned him making to roster, and with two injuries already you could be right.

So is this why BigMike was telling Simi to bulk up beginning of off-season? If Simiis playing a hybrid position what are the guys covering this team doing instead of telling us this?

My exact thoughts lol. Only thing I can think of is they were told to keep specific things like that close to the vest. But one could argue that Breer got away with saying it, though not sure if the team gets to see his final drafts before publishing.

He said in his segment on The Herd that he thought Simi was a TE mistakenly due to how the Cowboys sources he spoke with described his use. That means someone on the staff or insiders has this knowledge and gave it to Breer.

Interesting and strange lol.

From that ute cowboy (@tjacobson0824): How concerning is the Cowboys’ WR situation to start the season in your opinion?

Well, with Michael Gallup and James Washington both coming back from injury, and Amari Cooper gone, there’s no question the onus is going to be on CeeDee Lamb to take a major step forward in his third year as a pro. And part of that will probably have to mean being halfway decent around him which, obviously, will be more difficult with Washington and Gallup on the shelf, presuming neither is out there for Week 1.

So who would I keep an eye on? Noah Brown’s taken advantage of his opportunities in camp, has lost some weight and, going into his sixth year, looks like he really knows what he’s doing out there. Then, there’s Simi Fehoko, who is big enough, and deployed in a certain way, that I actually thought he’d been playing tight end when I talked to Cowboys people about him after Tuesday’s practice. The reality is he’s very much like a hybrid in how they use him, which gives the staff another option.

And then there’s the reality here that when you pay your quarterback at the top of the market, you’ll probably eventually have times when you’re asking him to make the difference for some sort of deficiency you have. No question, to some degree, early in the season, it’ll be on Dak Prescott to do that for Dallas.

Our available cap shows that this is not the case. There is plenty of money to have brought in a quality receiver. The highest receiver signing this offseason was Christian Kirk, who costs $7.5 million against the cap this year. We're still listed as having $21.467 million in cap space available, and that's with Barr included.

The Cowboys being cheap is why there's a strong possibility we'll have "some sort of deficiency." Not saying we should have given Kirk a 4-year, $72 million deal. But there's some middle ground between that and paying 1-year, $1 million for Washington. Or we could have picked up Washington AND another more-bona fide receiver after trading Cooper and losing Wilson.

Maybe an injury settlement with Washington before the season starts? I mean we may need his spot on the 53.
I think it's more likely they keep him on the 53 for one day and then move him to IR to return.

They can release veterans on cheap one year deals to make room and then re-sign them after the IR moves. Vets don't go through waivers.

Listened to a discussion yesterday with Broaddus about Fehoko. Broaddus claimed Fehoko and Miles Austin are similar players. Both of the receivers are more straight line. But Fehoko seems to have a little more curve or wiggle in his routes. Broaddus stated Fehoko has better hands and is a bit faster than Austin.

Broaddus also thinks Noah Brown will step up this season.

Take this as you will.

From what I've seen, Austin showed a better ability to accelerate out of his breaks. That's what got him open. One-speed guys aren't that hard to cover, but when a player has more burst than you do as a defensive back, then you have to respect his speed and can't jump his shorter routes without risking him accelerating past you over the top. If he's slow coming out of his breaks, then you can afford to take some risks knowing that you can play catch-up.

Not saying Fehoko is a one-speed guy, just that I need to see more to know if he has that gear that he can hit coming out of his breaks.

With Brown, I'll believe it when I see it in games. He's never been able to climb to the top of the depth chart when we had quality receivers in front of him, so I have to wonder if the camp praise is primarily because we don't have anyone better. WR/DB drills generally favor the receiver because there are a lot of one-on-ones and the receiver basically has a chance/time to throw multiple moves at the DB in order to escape. It's generally the one position each year where some player stands out in practice and disappears in games.

We won a Super Bowl with Michael Irvin and some jag opposite him. Jerry has tainted you guys train of thought so much, that some of you guys are thinking just like he does. Y'all want the best of the best at every position on the offensive side of the ball.

Peyton Manning was considered one of the best to ever play the position. In Indy they surrounded him with a bunch of offensive weapons and they luckily broke through one year. So how's surrounding Dak with all of these offensive weapons supposed to help us become a complete team?

Gallup will be back at some point during the season. Moore just has to be creative until that happens. With Turbin and Pollard in the mix creativity shouldn't be hard to come by. So you guys concerns about our offense are more of a OC problem than an WR problem.

So who do they keep on the roster pending Gallup/Washington return? Both of those guys need to be on the initial 53, if they want to move them to the IR and bring them back later in the season. Houston has impressed, Fehoko had versatility and Vasher has size you cannot teach. But not all those guys can be on the 53.
The principal word for your post is THREE -
3 preseason game performances from the 3 players could result in three different outcomes...
Made the opening season roster \ placed on the practice squad \ released outright

Brown and Fehoko would also be better blockers in run game.
