Yes, Peyton's defense failed him all game too..in fact, just as bad. At the end of the game, none of that mattered because Romo had the ball with more than enough time and all timeouts to put the game away. Essentially, the game was 0-0 and he had the ball in his hands. That loss was not even remotely all Romo's fault but let's not kid ourselves, when the game is on the line and you have 2.5 minutes left and all timeouts and you throw an interception, you deserve some blame for that loss. I'm less concerned with regular season games though and more concerned with win and in and playoff games. Those are the type of games he plays well below his regular season stats. Brees has delivered in those games and the super bowl which is at the highest level and that is why he gets a pass. Hopefully Romo can do the same this year and shake the choker label.
Yes, he deserves blame for throwing an interception in a game in which he constantly put us in position to win. I never mind people putting blame where blame is due as long as it is put in perspective.
Same thing with the playoffs. When the protection is halfway decent, Dallas is able to run the ball and the defense plays good, Romo puts up a 104.9 rating against Philadelphia. When the team play is crappy: Romo sacked six times and constantly under pressure, running game goes nowhere, defense allows Brett Favre to pass for 4 TDs and 134.4 rating, Romo finishes with a 66.1 rating against Minnesota.
Does Romo deserve some of the blame for that 66.1 rating? Certainly. He clearly doesn't deserve near all of it or the choker label some who don't understand such things give him.
A good example might be the 2011 playoff game between the New York Jets and New England Patriots. We all know how good of a QB Tom Brady is, but Mark Sanchez was the better QB that day, finishing with a 127.3 rating to Brady's 89.0, which included an interception. Why Sanchez was the better QB is the real story as New York was able to constantly harass Brady, with the three sacks and interception early in the game and five sacks total. His running game was at least a little more effective than Dallas' was against Minnesota.
