Last night while watching the Saints Ravens game I was reminded how lucky we are to have Tony. Brees doesn't have the team he used too. It actually resembles the Cowboys circa 2011 and 2012. The Saints likely won't get more than 7 wins where as Tony might have with that team. Just wondering if the people on the board who follow football as closely as I do would agree. To me, this year Romo looks like Brees used to because he now has more of a complete team around him and Brees looks confused playing with a team lacking depth.

Thanks. If he would have had the picks and fumbles like Brees did it would have been the lead on ESPN for 24 hrs. Brees' performance wasn't discussed at all today.

I honestly thought the same thing. And when they were discussing Brees afterwards and how he has to compensate for the whole team, I got really angry b/c we never heard them say that about Romo. Romo just SUCKED in their opinion. It wasn't that he had to carry an entire team and therefore was hamstrung and prone to make mistakes. So I totally agree and I'll be saying it aloud, trust me.

Brees has always gotten a free pass for some really bad ints in his career.

Didnt watch that game, numbers seemed to show he played pretty well outside the pic six.

The fact of the matter is that New Orleans is a small market team that most of the NFL doesn't care about when they aren't winning. No matter what ails Brees he will never receive the attention that Romo gets.

I personally am enjoying watching these perennial basement dwellers go back to where they belong, while the Cowboys, Packers, Niners etc return to the top.

After all these years of chaos, order is being restored.

They probably won't win more than 7 games and still win the division

He has a ring. That is the only reason why he is. Romo would get the same pass. Completely unfair., if you ask me. Romo has had some crappy, crappy players around him and the defense has never been his friend. But, he still always gets all the blame.

I agree. Drew Brees is a great QB but it takes a team to win. Dallas also has a great QB it is ashamed so few understand that, I do think more will see how great Tony is one this team makes it to the top then there will be no denying the numbers Romo has put up for his career

Leading your team to a super bowl holds a ton of weight. He had 32 completions int he super bowl tying Brady's record as well. He has delivered on the biggest state possible, so fair or not, he gets a pass. If Romo leads this team to the super bowl and plays outstanding, he deserves the same.

Media darlings always get the benefit of the doubt. Brees is a great QB, but when the plays show it, then the treatment by the Media should be equal. No one deserves a " free pass"

Brees basically tried to throw Jimmy Graham under the bus when he was appealing his TE designation. Brees said/testified that Graham was a TE in their system and that is how they use him and not as a WR. I'm sure Graham and the other players were not amused. Brees is getting paid a boatload of money to get the job done and he is failing. QBs need to realize that there is a limited amount of money and when you eat up a lot of it, teams cannot put players around you. So, you better perform or you will lose the team. And injuries can decimate a team so tight against the cap and not spread out properly. Brees is off this year and Graham was injured for a while. That is 30% of your cap having an off year. Throw in some recent bad drafts and injuries and this is what you usually get.

I think there might be some other things going on with the team like Brees, Payton, and Ryan not being nice people and a lot of fingerpointing going on right now. The Saints had a good run. The window of opportunity shuts quickly. The Saints might have to clean house and re-load with different players and coaches. It happens.

Although the Super Bowl is obviously a team accomplishment, the media and many fans crown quarterbacks when they win one and they don't receive the same criticism as those who haven't.

The reality is neither those QBs who win Super Bowls or those QBs who post great numbers season after season and don't deserve all the criticism that they receive. It's a lack of understanding about the nature of this game that makes media and fans lambast great QBs who fail to win because the team isn't playing great.

QBs should be held accountable for the mistakes they make, but their play shouldn't be viewed in a vacuum. It's much like the Denver game last year; Romo had a critical mistake, but played a great game that would have went down as such if the defense had not been atrocious. He deserves blame for his error, but it needs to be kept in context of the team's failings.

This. Brees has a ring and played a near perfect SB to earn it. That year, the Saints had all the pieces in place (around Brees) and made the run. Brees gets grace now for his past success like Eli does and that's just how the league is. I know it's never been said before (sarc) but Romo will shut the naysayers down and receive the same grace when/if he gets the ring. If he even gets to the dance on a couple of occasions, I think it helps (a la Jim Kelly/Boomer Esieson).

Yes, Peyton's defense failed him all game too..in fact, just as bad. At the end of the game, none of that mattered because Romo had the ball with more than enough time and all timeouts to put the game away. Essentially, the game was 0-0 and he had the ball in his hands. That loss was not even remotely all Romo's fault but let's not kid ourselves, when the game is on the line and you have 2.5 minutes left and all timeouts and you throw an interception, you deserve some blame for that loss. I'm less concerned with regular season games though and more concerned with win and in and playoff games. Those are the type of games he plays well below his regular season stats. Brees has delivered in those games and the super bowl which is at the highest level and that is why he gets a pass. Hopefully Romo can do the same this year and shake the choker label.

Bree's has Rob Ryan as his DC

That's why he looks like Romo.

Ryan puts a lot of pressure on a QB to score 30+ points every game in order to win.

He's going to be gone soon if you ask me.

Cleveland, Dallas and now NO.

He's capable of dragging any bodies team down.

That's true and I would get just as angry -- but now, in fairness I've heard it almost universally in broadcasts and articles that Romo has carried the Cowboys for years. They never said it while he was doing it, but now, with the proper pieces in place, people seem to finally get it.

Yes, he deserves blame for throwing an interception in a game in which he constantly put us in position to win. I never mind people putting blame where blame is due as long as it is put in perspective.

Same thing with the playoffs. When the protection is halfway decent, Dallas is able to run the ball and the defense plays good, Romo puts up a 104.9 rating against Philadelphia. When the team play is crappy: Romo sacked six times and constantly under pressure, running game goes nowhere, defense allows Brett Favre to pass for 4 TDs and 134.4 rating, Romo finishes with a 66.1 rating against Minnesota.

Does Romo deserve some of the blame for that 66.1 rating? Certainly. He clearly doesn't deserve near all of it or the choker label some who don't understand such things give him.

A good example might be the 2011 playoff game between the New York Jets and New England Patriots. We all know how good of a QB Tom Brady is, but Mark Sanchez was the better QB that day, finishing with a 127.3 rating to Brady's 89.0, which included an interception. Why Sanchez was the better QB is the real story as New York was able to constantly harass Brady, with the three sacks and interception early in the game and five sacks total. His running game was at least a little more effective than Dallas' was against Minnesota.

Actually I believe they got it all along, it was just more entertaining for the media sensationalists to attack him. Unfortunately most football fans, including many Cowboys fans got brainwashed.
