The guy is currently completing 77% of his throws which doesn't sound real. He's on pace for the highest season QBR in league history.

18 years in the league will do that.

Not dissing Brees, he's no doubt a very good quarterback. But as with Brady, with 19 years in the league, after a while you see just about everything, how many SBs would say, Bradshaw have won if he'd played 18 or 19 years? Life in the NFL was much tougher, the farther you go back, quarterbacks retired largely because of health issues. And the liberalized passing rules greatly helped Brees, Manning, etc. That's why I'm still of the opinion the greatest quarterback ever was Unitas, 40,000 yards passing, with lots of 12 game seasons and he got pummeled much more than qbs today.

So I'm not all that impressed with Brees's numbers, having luck with injuries, rules designed for passing and happening to hook up with a coach who set up an offense tailored to his skills plays a big part...

Never saw Unitas throw the ball. I absolutely agree the longevity and crazy numbers some of these QBs are putting up is a product of the era. Though, medicine has also advanced a great deal. A lot of the injuries that used to end careers in 60's,70's, and 80's are now 6-8 month rehabs. Guys are able to come back from just about any arm or leg injury.

Unitas attempted 5,186 passes. Brees has attempted 9,598, nearly double. But Unitas ypa is 7.8 vs. Brees 7.6, so given comparable attempts, Unitas would have had 74,864 yards passing to Brees' 73,046.

Can't really compare them, different eras, but the numbers are interesting...

Romo, in 2014, was the first QB in the NFL history to lead the league in Passer Rating in both the regular season (113.2) and playoffs (125.8)
:flagwave:

Brees looking to shatter those marks.

Brees has been low-key elite for a very long time, but spent a big chunk of his career on Saints teams with zero defense and no playoff hopes, which kept him out of the MVP running.

Regular season records are castles made of sand. It's nuts to think that all of Peyton's regular season records might be toast just a few years after he retired.

Your math is all wrong. Yards per attempt includes incompletions, which have no factor in career passing yards, you have to use yards per catch AND factor in completion percentage. YPA is only as the ball is sailing through the air. Doesn’t factor in run after catch, why yards per completion is always much higher than yards per attempt. In this example, you’re comparing Drew’s total yards from yards per completion at his career 67.3% completion rate vs Unitas’s yards per attempt at a 100% completion rate.

Bout to be even higher after he played our DBs tomorrow. Darby done for the year, Mills will be out too from what I heard on the radio today.

Sorry to see Darby break himself trying, but being unable, to keep up with Cooper in our game. Never want to see a guy lost for the year like that.

I hope he wins his 2nd SB. Than he can retire. Brees is so underrated. All we ever hear are how great Brady & Rodgers are while NO ONE says squat about Brees.

Its not a popular opinion, but its an accurate one. Brees is a system qb. I can say this because I have years of evidence. I followed the chargers his entire career. He was solid and made a pro with them when LT was amazing. LT had 1600 rushing yards and 100 catches once. They also had Gates. Brees had a borderline pro bowl year with the chargers. Suddenly when he gets with an offensive guru, he becomes a hall of famer. He's a system guy. He owes a lot to Payton. Payton also wanted Romo by the way. He would not be a hall of famer without Payton.
P Manning on the other hand, was mvp and set records with two teams and multiple coaches.

This is totally wrong. YPA is simply Yards/Attempts.

It does not exclude YAC. His math was right. Completion rate was not used in his numbers. Completion % is not necessary to figure this out.

All you have shown here is that no matter how great someone might be at their job, there is always that one guy that will find fault. Your that guy.
