If I had to pick one of the top DTs it would probably be Ika but Byron Young Ala. looks pretty good to me later on and is technically sound

47 tackles 5.5 TFL 4 sacks

While I’m not necessarily advocating Bresee at 26, I do think it’s important to actually watch the games and not just look at the stat sheet. I don’t think many DT’s would have excelled in Clemson’s 3-4 defense. Bresee was mostly used as a 5 tech that rarely got to shoot gaps or go 1 on 1 with an OG. When he did get that opportunity he was actually pretty impressive, unfortunately it just didn’t happen a lot. He’s definitely still a bit of projection and needs technique help working off blocks, but can’t write him off purely because of the stat sheet.
The play starting at 2:10 in this video really shows his burst.

Bresee played a couple games this year where he was easily handled. The Notre Dame game is just one of those. Suggest watching full game tape on him, and be weary of cherry-picked highlights.

I would be disappointed if the Cowboys drafted him in the 1st.

I would say a better example would be the back to back plays starting at 7:38 here. 2 plays that show an impressive skill when he’s 1 on 1 that won’t show up on the stat sheet

If I were king for a day.

Poona Ford and Hankins would be signed as the 1Ts. Bohanna can pound sand.

Then if the scouts like Kancey or Bresee, they get picked at 26, paired with Odi as the 3T and you have Watkins or Gallimore as the 5th DT.
I'd go Ford and Robinson, but I'd use Ford as the 3-tech in the run formations.

I don’t take d-line in the first.

Value and impact is simply not there where we are picking.

I like Kancey, just not at 26. IMO, he’s a guy you hope falls to 58.

Yeah, from reports I read or heard, Bresee had 1 really good year and never looked the same after the knee injury, dealing with the death of his younger sister, etc.

Which 1, if either, would you choose if available at 26?

Bryan Bresee
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/bryan-bresee/32004252-4551-0679-d769-a1a0d80e7931

Prototypical size for a 3 tech
Good, not elite athleticism
Don’t believe anything that should be a long term concern, but injuries have kept him off the field
15 TFL and 9 sacks in 25 games

Calijah Kancey
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/calijah-kancey/32004b41-4e04-6143-5a2e-df476a2bfc64

(Pro day happening tomorrow so may see a complete score after)
Undersized, with 30 5/8” arms possibly being most concerning
Makes up for size with freak athleticism
34.5 TFL and 16 sacks in 33 games

Honestly Id take either, but would be fine with passing too. Taking them would be a swing at the fences, and if you hit young get a dangerous interior rusher. At 26 Im ok with taking that swing

Don’t think we should reach for either of these guys in the 1st. Talent and need doesn’t match up at DT in the 1st.
