The Cowboys tried out a handful of kickers last week but ultimately stuck with Maher despite him missing two kicks in the team's Thanksgiving loss to Buffalo. After costing Dallas with another miss Thursday night in Chicago, the struggling Maher may be out of second chances. "We decided to give Brett an opportunity this week. It didn't work out," said Garrett bluntly. "So we have to take a real close, hard look at that." Maher is far from the Cowboys' biggest problem, but his poor play of late certainly hasn't helped matters.

Ahhhh, the scapegoat!

*** Note, Maher needs to go.

If anyone could spot something not working out, it'd be the king of never having anything work out.

But Mr participation trophy thought he kicked well last night.

Not sure what was worse the missed FG or that ridiculous onside attempt.

You went cheap for a kicker and got cheap value that have lead to at least 4 of your 6 loses.

Great Dumbo GM move.

1993 Jimmy Johnson went for better value and dropped cheap signing Eddie Murray and won back to back Super Bowls. Now you should know who was the real GM from 1989-1993.

I mean, it feels like they legit have no choice now, especially after that moronic Maher quote about feeling good about what he had done.

It doesn't matter now. There's no way that team has any faith in Maher. I know the kicking market is putrid, but Maher has left them no choice.

I could have told these guys about Maher 3 years ago. He played for the CFL team where I live.

I said, "He will hit the odd long one, but will miss plenty of makeable short ones". This was clear if you did any scouting or talked to anyone who'd seen him kick.

Not an excuse, but no salary cap back then, so you can't compare. Still Jerry is stupid regardless.
