With the looming changes regarding the Defensive coaching staff, what's the over/under on Stewart being back back? Sure, he is under contract, but I honestly was not impressed...at all, with him this year and anything he did. Potential candidates for replacement: Dom Capers or Gregg Williams, both would be significant upgrades IMO.

Thoughts?

We need a 3-4 guy and what does Gregg Williams know about that? Personally, I am very suprised that Gregg wasn't given the HC job in Washington. If we were moving back to a 4-3, I would love to get him.

I'd say it's a 100% certainty he'll be back. But if you're wanting to bet on it, I'd be more than willing to take your money.

By the way, what exactly were you not impressed with? You know he didn't call the plays, right?

Just a minor detail when you're trying to toss the baby out with the bath water.

you thought our defense was impressive last year?

if he's not calling the play, then what's the point? surely he has significant input on the play calling. seriously, what did this guy do to make you want to keep him?

I'm really not impressed with anyone on this team, players or coaches. Cut 'em all.

Yes, I thought our defense was impressive. Particularly considering that Jacques Reeves started more games than any other corner on the team.

That's kind of what I'm asking you. What's your point? What did you not like about him? You are the one that started the thread.

obviously a difference of opinion. I felt our defense went downhill late in the regular season, when ironically everyone outside of Ratliff was healthy.

This is very odd. Late in the season our defense improved consistently. It was the offense that declined dramatically.

Did you watch the games?

soft coverage for starters, consistantly playing 10 -15 yard of the LOS
poor tackling
lack of turnovers
soft run defense in the middle

No I didn't watch the any of the games

honestly, what I "saw" late in the season, beginning ~ the GB game was that we were giving up the run between the tackles and poor tackling overall.

I understand Reeves was out of his element out there, but there rest of the team was considered "starter" material and underperformed. Outside of Ware or Newman, I don't think anyone esle was remarkable. I guess that is my opinion and you obviously disagree?

My point on the thread was that we've now lost the majority of our defensive staff, and should we keep remaining person (DC), or take a legitimate look other options which may be available? Whoever it is, they will be re-building the entire Defensive Staff.

I'd say the over/under is 95% he will be back and I'll take the over.

And the defense improved quite a bit in just about every major pass defense category. And had the most sacks since 1994 and saw guys like Ware, James, Ellis, Ratliff, Spears, and Canty have the best years of their career.

With both of our corners hurt most of the season, our starting DT lost for the year and a defensive unit starting a new scheme we improved in almost every statistical category, I think Phillips and Stewart did a heck of a job with the cards they were dealt.

All right. We expected these 3. Now let's get down to business and upgrade. That's the point. None of the coaches we lost were so vital that they can't be replaced and even upgraded.

I've been floating the Emmitt Thomas for Bowles idea, but I have to admit, the thought Dennis Thurman could be coming home would be wonderful. I posted earlier a quote from Ronnie Lott's HOF speech where he said Dennis taught him how to be a better football player. He will bring attitude and our DBs need it.

Ive been disappointed in the development of our Dlinemen since Rodgers has been here. Ratliff has been the only bright spot whereas a healthy Canty, Spear, Htacher and others seem to perform to less than their potential.

I would love DT here.........maybe he could teach Roy how to cover and reteach him how to tackle.
