The Chicago Tribune reports LB Brian Urlacher said Tuesday he has yet to hear from the Chicago Bears regarding his future, but the veteran linebacker is hopeful that he will be back with the team for a 14th season in 2013. "Chicago is my home," Urlacher told "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on WMVP-AM 1000. "Whether I play for the Bears or not, that's my home. So I want to be there and hopefully we can work something out, but if not I'll go somewhere else." Urlacher is set to become a free agent soon after the Super Bowl. Asked if he definitely would be playing somewhere in 2013, Urlacher said, "For sure, yes. Still feel like I can, a little bit." And if it's not in Chicago? "Either way I'll be good," he said. "I'd like to play there but if not, I can move on. It's not that big of a deal." Urlacher indicated that money was not a top priority for him and, given his age (34) and recent injury history (knee and hamstring ailments that cut short his last two seasons), he said he'd be willing to give the Bears a hometown "discount." He had a base salary of $7.5 million this past season.

14th season. I don't know why but it doesn't seem like Urlacher has been in the league that long.

He's not coming to us and I rather take the money we'd give him and give it to someone else

The guy is done. sad when players do not know when to retire.

I don't want Urlacher but if London Fletcher can play at 37 Urlacher can too. And he's only 34.

can't blame them for going after a few more paychecks.

I've been thing about that productive years of football players in the NFL and the older I get the more I realize how short their window is. It disconcerting. Baseball players can hang on much longer and even be very useful long past their counterparts in football. Sure there are exceptions, esp at select positions. NE seemed to be on top of this years ago and would part with once valuable guys who still had some tread on their tires but saw it starting to separate and they were cut loose. Has Jerry learned the lesson? For RBs you can start thinking abt their replacement when they hit 26..they aren't usually done but they're production begins to noticeably show decline. Curtis Martin and Emmit smith being a couple of outliers. Maybe one day A Peterson will join them.

LBs have a larger window despite near comparable wear and tear as a RB. Maybe due to their size they can endure a little better. But Brian U is not what's needed here even if he were 5 yrs younger. Too many other units need bolstering.

I used to have a Brian Urlacher watch. It had kind of an ugly face and it used to run too fast. Then it was always broken. True story.

Short term he's perfect for a team in need of a LB and plays a 4-3. Nah. Not NYG.

Are athletes egos this fragile? OMG no has called me yet. *checks to see if phone is working* OMG please call :bang2:

I agree ... unless he comes here as some kind of volunteer coach.
He might be a good coach. He wouldn't have to be a volunteer; although, an assistant coaches salary might make him "feel" like he is volunteering.

Yea but he's already lost 2 steps. I don't think Fletcher has. Plus, Fletcher was probably a better pure athlete to begin with.

Who is going to turn down a few million a year to play football. I'd pay them to play if I was his age.
