Im fine with Harper he has been on the roster for two years and I'm OK with him subbing in for half a game if necessary, having Barr on the roster right now is not going to save the Cowboys season. Would you be ok to cut Harper for Barr is that what you're saying? I honestly don't understand. Barr will probably be available all season, he knows the defense if he wants to play you can pick him up at anytime. Your logic is not very well thought out imo.
1. Harper has been on the roster for 1 year and has only appeared in 3 games.

2. You dont necessarily need to cut him to sign Barr. Harper does provide value on special teams

3. I never said anything about Barr saving the Cowboys season. Going into the season with only 4 linebackers (2 with injury history and 2 with minimal experience) is dumb imo.

4. Fans were perplexed that we cut Jabril Cox but Barr was a better player than Cox was last year

5. Once again, my point was more based on the lb depth is terrible right now. I brought up Barr because he is a FA and knows the system. If this was the beginning of TC, my thoughts would change

I dont think this is out of the realm of possibility later on if more depth is needed.

I still think Deion Jones makes more sense though.

Id cut CJ Goodwin before id go into the season with 4 linebackers
CJ Goodwin is actually going to play, Barr will be on the bench unless there is an injury. This is the reason teams lose games. You play with fear then you play to lose.

I actually like Harper a whole lot. I would definitely rather have him go in than Barr.

I’ve been a Harper fan since they drafted him. He just needed to go through a couple of camps to learn, which was the main issue when he was coming out of OSU. He is very athletic and has really good quickness, but he is physical too.

He’s starting to get it at LB and now his athleticism is able to just flow…which is what we started seeing by the end of camp this year.

So, I think we’d be okay if Harper had to go in. I would be excited to see what he can do. He reminds me of a LB that Jimmy Johnson would have brought in.

I like him a lot. Just needs to keep learning.

Not if Deion is literally on fumes and has nuthin left in the tank.

We don't know for sure, but he still made plays last year. Obviously on the downside, but is his play still better than the 3rd or 4th guy here?

What people have to realize and keep in mind is Harper is really currently having his " rookie " season this year in 2023, after injuring his Achilles tendon very early in camp that forced him on the IR for the 2022 season.
That robbed him of very valuable game experience.

While i totally agree Frisco needs a vet LB....Barr is not it. Might as well bring back Coakley, and he's 50. LOL :muttley: ... They need to judiciously scan the waiver wire or retirement homes and find someone who can plug the holes like a first rate plumber.

C'mon Jerry, you're the genius.

Coakley is a viable option, but I'm wanting Dat Nguyen.

if Deion isn't signed up here by after the 2nd game of the season ( to non-guarantee his roster salary?) ..then
apparently the coaches (Quinn) are more enamored with the likes and potential of a Harper than they are an aging, declining vet LB.

Barr sucks

He’s slow and a huge liability in coverage and pursuit

Drop the pipe

The issue here is using "JAG" and then feeling the need to sign him due to depth. If he's a JAG, there should be a younger player out there to sign over him. Barr was a crappy grab even last season. He should be retiring, not playing again.
Barr isn’t even a JAG at this point

Lol trusting McClay and Quinn? The same two that signed off on this same player last year?

Only reason i brought up Barr was because he knows the system and the season literally starts in 8 days.
System is irrelevant… doubt seriously he’s in any type of football shape. He wasn’t in any shape last year and was here all season!

I think they do like Harper. He has the athleticism of a young Deion (pro day 40.5 inch vert. And a 40 time in the 4.44 range) but he’s a little bit thicker built. Plus, Harper just went through a full training camp working in this defense, so I don’t really know why they wouldn’t want to use Devin.

You could tell in the preseason games that he was starting to figure everything out. The play he made in the Raider’s backfield was nice. I really like the guy.
