Bring Back Hudson Houck...

Actually the line sucked for the last few years he was here as well. Everyone conveniently forgets exactly how bad we'd become prior to bringing in Coslett's guy to coach the line. Good take but I think third and one also had to do with E's last few years where he couldn't hit the hole like he used to. The back ups were getting bigger runs then Smith his last few years...the holes were getting smaller but were still there. Coslet's years on, things have gotten a lot worse...

Houck gets good results wherever he goes. If I'm not mistaken, last year wasn't he the O-line coach of the Chargers? Big part of that team's turnaround. I thought I read he left there, anyone know where he is now?

Yes Houck gets results, but he had stopped getting results here years before he left. I don't care what he's done in SD, I care about the state of our line when he left - and it wasn't very good. Our line was pretty bad before the Coslett debacle, and I don't just mean in short yardage. Our pass protection and blitz pickups were nothing special either. We fielded a below average line for at least the last 3 years Houck was here.

Sure JD but remember the salary cap problems, fiasco after fiasco at QB, age and no depth at RB, Campo as coach and horrific drafting that was going on at the same time. I know new coaches need to emerge on every team but I'd take Houck over the unknown we have know.

I believe he took a lot of money to go coach Miami's OL...

That might be one one of the dumbest (so called) observations I have ever heard! Learn the correct spelling of a former Dallas Cowboy player before you use them as a reference, I think they deserve at least that much respect!

Houck didn't draft guys like Clay Shiver, so I would say he was handicapped with lousy draft picks and old veterans....lets give Sparano a chance and see how he does this year.

we could have got Houck back because he did leave SD for Miami

however it was Tony Wise who developed our OL initially...he was OL coach in after the 92 super bowl, when he left with Wannstedt for Chicago

Lets face it... we havent made offensive line an offseason priority in years. When was the last time we drafted an O-Lineman in the 1st round? Have we ever?

We've missed terribly on free agent signings. Im even questioning the Rivera signing now that its known he had a back injury.

I think it comes down to a lack of talent and chronic underachievers like Gurode and Flozell and to an extent LA the last couple of seasons.

Houck, Alvazzano(sp), ect. all got lazy working under head Coach Jerry Jones. Discipline starts at the top and we did not have any from 94-02. Houck was, and still is, one of the top five in his profession.

The special teams started going south when Joe was still the coach. The return teams haven't produced the big returns the last two years, but the coverage teams have been great. The last two years under Avezanno, the coverage teams gave up a lot of big returns. I got tired of seeing that lost look on his face when the special teams gave up a big play.

The return teams started going South when JA started sharing duties as HC of the Desperados and ST Coach of the Cowboys.

As for Houch, I agree. He had little talent in the OL twords the end and an extremely slow backfield to work with.

Give the guy talent and he produces. What more can you ask for from a position coach?

Houck is already getting rave reviews from players and fans alike here in South Florida. I saw him up close and personal at Dolphins camp, and there was a lot of instruction going on. He's got the Dolphins first round pick from last year, Vernon Carey, holding his own at LT against the likes of Jason Taylor. Under the Wanny regime, Carey couldn't even sniff the game-day active list last year.

Ironically enough, just as it happened here in Dallas, Houck is taking over for Tony Wise again. The big difference however, is that Wise seems to have lost something, if that's possible for a coach, the last few seasons. More than one Dolphins o-lineman has commented this summer on how much more hands-on Houck is as compared to Wise.

When you have a good one, cherish them. If they are bad, one is as good as the other.
