It sure seems like Murray was a lot more effective running with a FB. I really am not a fan of our new running game, maybe it will change as the team adjusts, but for the record I like the FB leading the run through the hole.

I agree and would add that it was FB Fiametta that Murray got his best ypc with his rookie year, and not Chapas who basically was our last interest in the position, taking him in the draft. Murray had a 5.5 yard avg his rookie year, 4.1 last year, 3.5 so far this year. So it is the RIGHT FB as well. I don't think Vickers is the answer either.

I agree, we need a re-establishment of the I-formation power style running game. Slam the ball behind the fullback between Center and Guard, and pick up a chunk of yardage. No dancing, just power. It's what the Steelers were so good at for so long, and now they have lost it. And they have really lost it.

There are some really good fullbacks that are out there right now for the taking as teams are moving to base 2 TE offenses. Dallas could bring in both John Conner who is only 26 and Owen Schmitt who is only 28. They could cut a safety, useless Olineman like Costa or Arkin, or a Andre Smith the TE and make it happen very easily.

They just cut a FB they signed as a FA the year before. Its going to take more than two games of futility before this crew admit they made a mistake.

Lawrence Vickers had nothing left. Cutting him was not a mistake Conner would bust the run game wide open and his salary would only command $613,000 which even Dallas could afford. Conner lays people out with his blocking and the Bengals only cut him because they wanted the other fullback who offered more on special teams. Conner is a classic fullback who obliterates people, but that is all he does. Dallas would have to use a spot on the roster for him and acknowledge that all he would give them was excellent fullback play and that's it. Small price to play when Arkin, Costa, Andre Smith, or a safety could be cut to make it happen.

I don't think the problem is the FB. I do think he's possibly not playing as naturally because he's a lot more concerned about holding onto the rock. If that's the case, he'll lighten up as the season goes on.

murray isn't a ZBS RB, plain and simple. We keep trying to fit square pegs in round holes, man corners playing zone, tackles playing as guards, side to side tackling machines dropping straight back in coverage in the tampa 2, 4 of our lineman have power but we have them moving side to side, and our RB is a hit the hole hard and run over the linebacker and see what happens and we have him trying to wait and find the hole that may or may not open up, and our gunslinger QB is doing his best stephen mcgee impression.

If what they say is true (Murray has little vision) then following a FB wouldn't be such a bad plan.

OK, so the mistake was signing Vickers?

He was suppose to be an upgrade, obviously he wasn't. He was a low risk signing, worth the risk. Its not like his contract but this team in a bind. I really hope Dallas brings in John Conner before someone else gets him. I think DeMarco would run much better behind a sledgehammer fullback.

I think the team made a conscious decision not to go with a FB. I see little prospect of them changing their minds anytime soon. Most people on this board approved and even saluted the decision at the time.

John Conner or Braden Wilson. Both are head knockers in running game. And Wilson can also play TE.
