I think that could be an upgrade, and DeVito should be cheaper than what we're paying Ratliff now (am i right?)

I think DeVito is underrated, and could be very usefull in our new 4-3 scheme.

am i the only one that thinks this would be great?

Ratliff is a natural 4-3 DT, and will most likely excel in this defense. We would owe him $5 million and only save $1million on the cap.It would be more cost effective to just keep him at this point.

Devito offers absolutely nothing from a pass rushing standpoint. He has 2.5 sacks in 6 seasons. He made 2.28 million last year, meaning he'll be closer to 3.5 or more this year. Financially it doesn't make a lot of sense to cut Jay, save 1 million, pay a guy that gets 1/3 of Jays production and spend 3 million on him. So the net spending is $2 million more than what we would have had for way less production.

Ratliff are injured a lot, and i don't see him playing a full season.. DeVito is a bad pass rusher, but he should be able to stay healty, and can stop the run, and with Ratliff decresed abillity to stop the run, I think it would be a good fit, we would still have Spencer, Ware and Hatcher to rush the passer

Ratliff was injured a lot last season, but his injuries aren't career threatening types either. He's had a foot injury followed by a groin injury.

I would expect him to be ready for TC no problem. And we need more guys who can push/collapse the pocket, not less.

We can easily draft a 1 tech to basically stop the run. It's harder to get guys who can disrupt the pocket.

I would let Ratliff play one year in Kiffin's scheme, hope he has a great year, and sell high on him next offseason.

There is absolutely no reason to believe Ratliff will play the run worse in a 4-3 than he would in a 3-4. He'll take on less double teams, which will likely improve his run defense if anything.

As far as injuries we have to be fair: Jay played and started every single game from 2008-2011. He didn't miss a game in 4 years. In fact outside of last season Jay has missed 2 games as a starter in 5 seasons. I don't think the injury concern is nearly as great as some make it out to be.

And again, the proposal is to cut Jay, save 1 million dollars, pay Mike 3.5 million or so, for less results. It just doesn't make sense.

DeVito is a bad pass rusher and this is a pass happy league. Not a good combo when stopping the run almost doesn't matter.

Not a bad idea if there's a buyer.

At one time, Ratliff would have done well in the 4-3. I think the days of him being able to excel in any system is about over. He would have been great if it wasn't for the wear and tear that his body has took at the NT position. He is not going anywhere due to the terrible contract that Jerry extended. In his case, we can only hope for the best, considering his age and nagging injuries.

I think Ratliff will do very well in a rotation in Kiffen's scheme as long as he's healthy. Beg to disagree here.

He has managed only 1.8 sacks / season over the past three years and has been, at best, average against the run.

I don't know if it's realistic to think a new scheme is going to make a big difference is the steady 5 year decline we've seen in Jay Ratliff's stats.

I don't know in terms of pure sacks how effective he'll be, but I think in a rotation, he'll push the pocket and be very disruptive.

The key, imo, is that he has to be part of a rotation, or he'll burn out by the last quarter of the season.
