The best thing about our draft and the transition of our defensive personnel is we will be better able to generate turnovers.

Our defense hasn't been hurting opponents with enough splash plays. Rod M has needed to resort to bend-don't-break because our personnel hasn't been well suited for playmaking.

I suspect we'll see more blitzes from secondary and more INT even during the rookie years of the new guys.

Last 3 seasons combined
Carr: 1 interception and 1 sack
Claiborne: 2 int and 0 sack
Church: 4 int and 0 sack
Wilcox: 5 int and 0 sack
Jones: 2 int and 0 sack

Scandrick has never had a season w/more than two INT.

Thru the draft we brought in some quick-twitch youth, guys known for turnovers and sacks.

Heath seems to create more turnovers as well...so if he plays more perhaps we get more there as well. Jeff equalled Carr's 3-year splash output in the Packer playoff game alone.

Not just INT's, but fumbles too.

I think Awuzie forced 4 over the last 2 years.

I think it's pretty much a given that we'll do better in takeaways even with the young guys. Got faster too.

do you know how good carr, clairborne, church, wilcox and jones were at generating turnovers in college?
i dont, but just curious

Heath's nickname should be Splash.

I hope Jeff Heath is legit, but I'm not buying yet.

Hard to get excited about someone who couldn't beat out J.J. Wilcox for snaps last season and only got on the field because of injuries.

Heath really showed up in the playoff game against the Packers and has a golden opportunity to become a starter this year.

I get your skepticism and I'm not sold on the guy 100% either. I do think he's merited more playing time.

The Cowboys staff has gone to great lengths to discover and augment our current roster with aggressive and talented youngsters for our defense. There should be no reason why this defense shouldn't benefit greatly from the infusion of young talent that promises to occur within the upcoming season and beyond. Simply put, they're just too good not to succeed and do so impressively while they're at it. It might take time but it'll happen.

Honestly..if you want pics then pressure is required. Without a passrush it is very difficult to generate interceptions. Thats been whats killed the secondary.

I agree but would add that our old dbs had opportunities at times, more often than not they were batted balls or drops. I dont think any of them excelled at making plays on the ball. Of course more pressure = more opportunities.

I've been waiting for this to get posted.

True...gotta pressure Qbs into mistakes. I agree. I think we'll see improved pressure, though it will come more by way of committee and blitzes.

I like the idea of rolling with a 3 man front on passing downs and then bring 1, 2, sometimes 3 guys in from all over...a linebacker, corner, a safety.

Yep. I am dyin to see what this defense brings. I am thinking it will be a rough start to the season but a strong finish.

Marinelli has some weird ways of dealing with who starts or gets playing time.

Garrett had to force the issue of making Scandrick the 3rd CB with Brown starting ahead of him when only 2 CBs were on the field.

He played Hayden way too much when he was here.
