Did you guys hear them say he definitely will be in the ring of honor and POSSIBLY even more (HOF)? They always call great players future HoFers, they disrespected Witten right there

Because the truth is...right now....Witten is NOT a HOFer. He probably needs to win a ring. How many TEs are in the HOF? Witten is steady, consistent...but we must not confuse the Hall of Fame...with the Hall of Very Good. And that has happened here a few times lately. Witten is the Art Monk of TEs...minus the Super Bowl rings. Which is why I think Witten will need to win a Super Bowl to get in.

Al Michaels was doubting Witten's HoF status. Collinsworth was not.

I think the only thing that can hurt Witten is his lack of TD's and the TE position is getting out of hand as far as offensive production goes.

Nonsense.

7x(8?) Pro Bowl, should of been another this year, 3rd all time in TE receptions, soon to be all-time leader in DC receptions. He's defo HoF bound no doubt.

we shall see. He does not get in the endzone. He is not explosive. Would you consider Witten in his prime better than Gates in his prime? We are going through a passing era. And so everyones numbers are inflated. Laurent Robinson had more TDs in one season...than Micheal Irvin EVER had in one season. So that is proof of the era of football we live in. And there were plenty of coaches and voters who kept Art Monk out for the longest. Simply put...coaches did not fear Art Monk. So if Witten gets in by just piling up stats...it is going to take a whole lot of convincing and lots of years.

There are 21 modern era wide receivers in the hall of fame.

Witten's numbers are wide receiver esque. Not sure why he wouldn't get in.

Currently 38th all time in receptions, 87th in yards, 167th in touchdowns.

He will only go up. Not sure what he has to do in your mind.

Bro you're talking about a few good seasons! Witten has done it for about a decade. That's what gets you in the HOF!

look EVERYONE...I am a Dallas Cowboy fan....so I would LOVE for Witten to get it. But all I am saying is that numbers are up all across the NFL...so numbers are not going to carry the same weight as it once did. I mean is Fred Taylor a HOFer? If Tony plays 5 more years like this...and does not ever make it to a Super Bowl...is he a HOFer? Numbers will not be compared across eras...they will be compared against the era a player competed in. Like I said in an earlier thread..we won last night...so I will not engage in long drawn out battles with fellow Cowboy bretheren today. We can agree to disagree and keep it moving.

I'm with you, bbailey. It's pretty tough for TEs to get in anyway, and now you have this so-called new breed of TEs that are more like WRs but put up huge numbers coming up behind him.

It will probably be a help among the Peter Kings of the world that Parcells drafted him, though.

It's a tough row to hoe for TE's.

Besides, in the end, the judgement of the sportswriters, et al, will be that it was Romo who made Witten so great.

you guys are nuts, witten could retire right now and get in first ballot so there is no doubt that when he does hang them up he is going in

And of course Romo will be discounted because he had someone like Witten that made him look better than he was. :laugh2:

Chris Collinsworth actually said jason deserves more then just the ring of honor. He should go into the hall of fame. He is a warrior and showed it last night.

Wow! Just wow! I have heard it argued that Eli Manning could not even get in if he retired right now. I mean Eli does not have to win another playoff game. But I have heard it argued that he needs a few more seasons of consistent performance to get it...yet you think Witten could retire RIGHT now and get in?

Let me ask you this....could Tom Coughlin retire right now and get in?
