1. I have to give the 49ers secondary a great deal of credit in the way they shut down these Cowboys receivers. It didn't matter if it was Terrance Williams orDavid Porter, there was not much room on the outside to operate. The windowswere extremely tight and that was a problem for these Cowboys quarterbacks all night.

2. The film will show that Davon Coleman played very well at the point of attack from the nose tackle position. He was able to fight off blockers and was difficult to handle, whether the 49ers were trying to run the ball or pass. His lower body power and quickness were outstanding as he continues to make a push to be a serious piece of this rotation.

3. Joseph Randle was better in his opportunities to carry the ball than Darren McFadden was. I thought Randle showed balance on a couple of his carries -- which I had not seen that before. If there was a disappointing play for him, it was the holding call where he tackled the blitzer, wiping out a 3rd-down conversion for the offense. His technique was awful and it was an easy call for the official to make.

4. Coaches will be pleased in what they got from Ben Gardner in this game. I said on our radio broadcast that I th

Randle's inability to pick up a blitzer is a major concern. Probably one of the more overlooked downsides to letting Murray walk (not saying we should have signed him at that price, just pointing out a reality).

Why doesn't the team cut McFadden and sign a legitimate 3rd down back (Pierre Thomas) who can handle the blitz pick ups? Understandably Randle will have to improve on 1-2nd downs, but McFadden is just wasting a roster spot. At least Thomas has proven adequate in these arenas (pb/pass catching).

DMC was one of the best running backs in pass protection. Murray was average, he was not some super protector but he got the job done be he blew assignments also. I can handle a back that knows where he is going but has bad technique which is better than a guy that has good technique but is clueless to who he is supposed to pick up.

Randle did a pretty good job picking up a blitzer on the pick-6 play. Stonewalled the guy. Too bad the left side of the line didn't block anyone and Vaughan's brain shart itself.

Most of these are spot on especially about Gregory. There were times where he didn't control his gap and went up field. The Niners exploited that but he will learn.

I don't think it was overlooked at all and its why nearly 100% of us fans wanted and expected a RB to be drafted fairly high.

Is Thomas known for blowing pb assignments? I mainly reference him due to his success in that role with NO and figure his running ability was about on par (if not better) than McFadden and has the pb tools to allow McF to become expendable.

But thomas also has the same injury issues as DMC so its like changing a flat tire with a different flat tire.

Gregory is not the problem. If not for the 2 holding calls (and a couple not called) he would have had minimum 3 sacks against the Niners. He was also active against the run and not a liability especially at POA. He does have some things to clean up but those complaining about Gregory are insane. This kid is for real and I am thankful he is a part of the Cowboys.

Of course, the run D was not good, giving up over 150 yards on the ground, but would not say it was Gregory's fault primarily. The middle of the DL and the LBs were bigger culprits IMO. But we had no starters at those positions in the game at any time, so I am hoping Marinelli will clean that up. More troubling is that the D had ZERO takeaways. This is Marinelli's thing, takeaways are what saved our D last season, need to get those back.

Didn't say he was a liability against the run but actually did well from my view yesterday. There were some times that they ran to his side and ran passed him because he went up field so quickly. Also I contributed it to him getting tired in how much he was used yesterday. He is going to be an excellent player if he can remain focused and dedicated. I think we got a real steal here.
