was reading an article on dallas cowboys.com and found this interesting.

"As far as the Cowboys are concerned, Floyd was the second-best-rated linebacker on their board -- only Myles Jack was ahead of him."

So if true, why did they draft Smith??

Smith was ahead of Jack on their board. Might have been an error by Boraddus.

Broaddus probably meant 2nd best OLB.

In the position ranking, Cowboys had Myles Jack as an OLB and Jaylon Smith as an ILB, but they listed Leonard Floyd as an OLB/DE along with Lawson, Ogbah, Shalique Calhoun and two illegibles. So they likely saw him as an end.

They liked him as a DE in our scheme for pass rush, you are correct!

If Jack got an ok from my medical staff, I would have had him over Zeke. If Smith was healthy, he would have also been over Elliott for me.

It is just a very big gamble though. Smith stuck out in each of his three years at ND. It is just a question if he ever recovers or if he is ever that same player again.

Are Myles Jack and Floyd starting yet? I thought I heard Floyd was underperforming in camp and through the first two games. Floyd didn't impress me at all vs the Eagles. Or, at least, I thought he played a little vs the Eagles. What is Jack doing in Jacksonville? Last I heard the fans were clamoring for him to get more playing time.

Jack has 2 combined tackles for his NFL career.
He wasn't a tackler at UCLA so that really isn't a surprise IMHO.

Might have been most athletic LB I saw but least linebacker-like dude I watched too. He's the anti-Singletary. He played on top of every play and never got beat but he seldom made solo tackles himself. Lots of corralling.

Smith was far more impressive IMHO. He looks like Sean Lee. Undersized but tough, aggressive, direct.
He ran through blockers.
