Broaddus on drafting a QB this year

Statistically drafting a QB in the middle rounds is pretty much the worst pick you can make in the draft. 1st and 2nd round or don't take 1.

And yeah yeah, I know everybody is going to list the exceptions....

That's because there are a ton of exceptions.

There are not a "ton" of exceptions of QB's drafted in the 3rd-7th rounds who have had long term, play-off winning success in the nfl. A handful, but not even close to a ton.

True.
There are some great stories of successful (or fairly successful) QBs taken after rd 2.
However, the list--especially in the last 15 years--is fairly short.
Here are some of them :
2000..Brady (6th)
1994..Warner (UDFA)
2003..Romo (UDFA)
2012..Wilson (3rd)
1994..Garcia (UDFA)
1998..Hassleback (6th)
1993..Brunell..(5th?)
2002..Garrard (4th)

Murray is Dalton pt 2. Garrett is probably in love with him

Either use a #1 on a sure fire franchise QB or don't even waste the pick.

You are right. It us a waste of the pick if you look back at other drafts. The ideal of drafting one and developing him us a myth according to history.

Agree completely.

I'd even take a flyer on a late-rounder with a funky college career - like a part-time starter or even a talented backup at a big program - before I took a mid-round quarterback.

Brady was always fighting for a starting job at Michigan. Warner wasn't a starter until a fifth-year senior. Brad Johnson was a backup at Florida State. Brunell split time as a starter with another player at Washington. They all had sort of abnormal college careers that hurt their draft stock.

If a quarterback goes to a powerful university in a major conference and starts there for multiple years but can't get his draft stock higher than the fourth round (ala Murray), why would you want to draft him?
