With Darren McFadden missing practice this week to attend to some personal business, Ezekiel Elliott was running with the first offense with Alfred Morris and Darius Jackson as the backups.

I will never understand this. These guys have all off-season to handle their affairs and plan and schedule accordingly. I understand that there are things that pop up like family illnesses and emergencies. But it always seems like when we see someone missing practice to "attend to personal business" it's usually the underachiever(s) who have never lived up to the hype.

I'm a big Mayle fan too. Could be the best blocking WR on the team, and he provides some of the things that Dez brings to table in his power and RAC ability. Glad to see he's been working on catching ball with his hands.
Just curious how you arrived at this. Pretty contrary to a couple of scouting reports prior to the draft.

Inconsistent effort as run blocker if he doesn't square defender up. No dynamic traits near line of scrimmage, including after the catch.

He also needs to polish up his run blocking. At times he shows he is more then capable, and at other times he completely whiffs. The one thing all of these flaws have in common is that Mayle can improve on all of them as he continues to play the game.

Needs technique work as a blocker.

I think McFadden met expectations last year. Not saying he deserves any "superstar treatment" but I think you are overblowing this a bit. EE will be starting anyway.

Good to hear someone under the radar like OT Ryan Mack is making a good impression on Broaddus in OTAs. If he keeps it up, it would be a big plus if we have a legit chance to get even more backup depth at that position.

How Broaddus makes evaluations.

Would you rather rely on Helman's evaluations? That's what other team websites put out there. Not former scouts.

I lived in Sacramento while Mayle played HS ball. He played against my boys more than a few times. He was a RB and LB in HS, but the kid was a physical specimen on basketball court as well. Even at just 6'2 he was dominant on the boards as a forward because he was a load when he boxed out and impossible to slow down when he was running down the lane, especially on fast breaks.

I am also a huge PAC 12 fan now and one of my best friends is a WSU alum so I've have watched Mayle as a WR quite a bit, especially the 2014 season. I am not saying that Mayle IS a better blocking WR than Dez, or anyone else on the team, currently. And yes, Mayle is woefully inconsistent, from his hands to his blocking to his consistency. But Mayle is a very physical and strong WR who has the ability to erase corners on running plays as well as break multiple tackles after the catch. Mayle is NOT quite the freak athlete like Dez, but he is a freak athlete in his own right. And when he is focused he is capable of taking over games. He is the only WR in PAC 12 history to post two 250 yard games in a single season.

He has his warts but if he didn't then he would not be a 4th round pick, or released from original team who drafted him after one season. But his potential is through the roof but his team has to be patient. I don't believe he has more than a couple of seasons playing WR, at any level.

When was the last time anyone paid you for a football opinion, much less an evaluation?

People love talking crap about Broaddus, but he's at least a pro. That doesn't mean he's always right, just like most of us aren't right on everything at our jobs.
