It's not only the speed with Lucky Whitehead, it's the quickness.

#13 has a freaky supply of it.

Whitehead can turn on a dime without losing much of his momentum.

I watched him leaves our DBs in the dust on multiple occasions during training camp when making breaks during routes.

Lucky is far from where he needs to be, but just looks like a player to me.

Even if he doesn't open the season as the primary returner, Whitehead is on my 53.

I agree.

There aren't any better options out there and the guy has talent. Beas and Dunbar may help out with returns initially but I think Whitehead will be the eventual go-to guy for all returns.

I didn't see ANY of camp like you did be he flashed last night. His teammates show respect toward him and that tells me that he's been making plays for weeks just as your post indicates. He's not on my 53 yet, but I can see him being a HELLUVA weapon in the slot similar to Beasley. People have to come to the realization that slot WR is a HUGE weapon in today's game. There's just no denying that. The new rules have made guys like this very valuable. The little guy from Maryland (Diggs?) that the Vikings drafted tore us UP last night. He's a perfect slot WR and will be Bridgewater's best friend this season (along with AP)

Coleman could end up being a "poor man's Warren Sapp" in this defense. He's not the tallest guy out there, but boy is he quick off the ball and he already has that wicked spin-move.

Coleman has played lights out, he makes the team !

Without question.

In my 53, I've currently got 5 DTs in my 10 DL.

It may be difficult to keep 5 true DTs because all of the DEs except Randy Gregory can play DT in the NIckel.

But Rod Marinelli wants to use a legit 8 man rotation during the season and that means going long on DL.

In fact, it'd be easy to keep 11.

I released Terrell McClain and kept Ken Bishop in my 53 because of the former's injury history.

Bishop is a pure NT.

McClain can play NT and UT, and proved to be disruptive on those rare occasions he was healthy last year, but Davon Coleman can do the same thing and it appears his light has come on.

Coleman is also younger, cheaper and under contract longer.

McClain misses too many games and the young guys will be back next year.

That's another reason I'd thought of but didn't include in my prior post.

We don't have a true back-up to Cole Beasley in the slot.

If he goes down, the next option might be motioning Lance Dunbar out of the backfield to use as a slot receiver (provided he can stay healthy).

Lucky Whitehead is Beasley's understudy in the slot.

His ability inside and as a returner has me buying.

The team might be able to find a different WR on waivers who can do more on special teams in terms of also being a coverage player, but a legit developmental slot WR and returner may not be found.

Just to the naked eye ( i mostly go commando ) I am keeping Whitehead and Swaim. I have some real tough decisions on the Defensive line.

I take Cowboyszone posters who incessantly doubt Broaddus with a grain of salt.

Go ahead. Anybody who was employed by Lacewell and then subsequently let go when the Parcells regime started -- and then never got back into scouting -- should be taken with a grain of salt.

I hope they keep the Swaim kid. He just reminds me of a young Jason Witten.

Swaim is pretty surprising. Decent pass catcher and has shown he can block in-line. Just kind of depends what you want to do with the rest of the unit. Don't see us keeping 4 Tight Ends and a Fullback.

Both are deserving, IMO.

I have some real tough decisions on the Defensive line.

I'm really in a happy pace when it comes to the DL.

Some decisions need to be made, but I don't know if it will really be a tough job to undertake.

Here's what I've got.

DL(10)

DeMarcus Lawrence (DE)
Randy Gregory (DE)
Jeremy Mincey (DE)
Ryan Russell (DE)
Ben Gardner (DE)
Tyrone Crawford (DT)
Nick Hayden (DT)
Jack Crawford (DT)
Davon Coleman (DT)
Ken Bishop (DT)

At DE, I'm keeping Gardner over Lavar Edwards, and a case can be made for the latter. It can also be argued to keep both and go short elsewhere.

Similarly, it can be put forth to keep Terrell McClain at DT by going long or at the expense of Ken Bishop.

Given McClain's injury history and the emergence of Davon Coleman, I'm keeping the younger DTs.

I'll understand if McClain makes it, but will be disappointed if it's at the expense of Ken Bishop. That's my only worry here.

I still haven't crossed over to saying Coleman has made the team. Hopefully he has overcome the knocks against him but last season he was kind of a knucklehead and this year I like the others like Bishop and Ryan Russell a lot more. Also I think the fact that so many of the DEs like Hardy, Mincey, and Russell can play both DE and DT works against him.

The problem that I see with Broaddus' articles is that he literally can't get past some of his built in bias that he has... both positively and negatively.

He gets his cats (that he likes) and his dogs (that he doesn't like) and can't get around that, IMO.

The problem with that is that his likes and dislikes become part of the fan bases like and dislikes because so many read his stuff and take it as gospel because he's an ex scout and he's there, while most of us are not.

That quickness is what makes Beasley so good
Fast is one thing, quickness in and out of breaks is what gets you separation

That's what they did with Harris
Slowly worked him into the return game and that's what I would do with lucky

I think Swaim will be a factor this season, he is a lot better than the scouts thought he was, a real TE.
