I posted this because it reminds me a little of last year, minus all the high expectations. There were several players that had some questions to answer and what made last year so special is many of those answered in the affirmative.

Anyone not make the list that you have questions about?

Tyrone Crawford - it seems as if he is also being overlooked. This will be his first year starting as the incumbent 3-tech. You have to think with a full offseason being that mindset should contribute to a distinguishable leap in production....in what ever form that may be; sacks, tackles, hurries, remaining disciplined in play diagnosis, etc.

Cole Beasley - he got the shiny new contract. I really like what we have seen from him and think he is one of those guys that may have been underutilized last season. Many have hinted he could be in for a breakout season given the Cowboys may not be relying on the run like they did last year. Can he continue to improve on what he has shown thus far?

Terrence Williams - Perhaps not as consistent as Cole Beasley, he did show the ability to break away from defenses and made some really big catches throughout last year to help the Cowboys. Dez Bryant recently pointed out he sees improvement in his route running. Is he in for becoming a threat defenses have to account for on the side opposite Dez?

I honestly don't believe anyone should be considered safe as an every down Safety on this team. If the Cowboys hold true to having the best 11 on the field for a given situation, I can honestly imagine the Cowboys bringing in White/Jones in on passing downs in 3rd and long situations. The question is, who gets the lions share? Marinelli likes to rotate people up front, so he could possibly also do it on the back end as well, considering the position flex of Jones and White.

Gavin Escobar - as has been these case for every TE that's passed through these parts since the acquisition of Jason Witten, your moments to shine are few and far between. But he has had some big moments. Can he build on that? Will he get that chance?

Returner - Who ever wins that job could be the last WR on the Cowboys depth chart. And there are some potentially electric players available this year. Lucky Whitehead in particular, who very well may only be useful in the capacity and therefore will have to be exceptional to garner final 53 consideration, is someone I'm really looking forward to seeing. Antwan Goodley can be dangerous, as well, and actually has a RB build at 5'10" 220 lbs.

Those are just a few questions rolling through my mind at the moment...

This is the first I've heard of Gregory having a "lack of pass rush moves." I'm interested to see how our OL and DL match up against each other and who wins those battles.

From the looks of things today, the OL pretty much owned the DL.

Well since it is a widely held belief....that this is the the best and/or at the very least a top 3 OL....and this DL is widely considered mid level at best.....then it stands to reason that this OL should own this DL. I think we should be very afraid if this DL was outplaying this OL.

A few notes:

@jday I think there are quite a few players being overlooked who have real potential to take their game to a higher level this year. I'm also looking forward to the dividends that we could get from Gregory, Collins, and Jones next year.

@Thefeelofcotton I'd say they've been discussing his lack of moves for a while now. They've been talking about him winning in college based on pure athleticism, but I don't think you have to worry about that with him here. He will develop strength and technique to go along with his talent and athleticism. He might not be a force this year, but I think he can still contribute.

@bbailey423 I'm not sure you can seriously consider the DL mid level at best. I think you are coming to that conclusion based on the idea that they were one of the worst in the league last year, and can't possibly jump more than half way up the ladder in one year. I don't think that is an accurate analysis of the position group or what has gone on in the NFL. First we've made significant investment in the line over the last two years, Greg Hardy is considered a top 5 defensive end in the league. The ceiling is high on DeMarcus Lawrence, who was highly sought after edge rusher in his draft class, as was Gregory despite his fall in the draft for non football reasons. Crawford is coming on strong and focusing at just one position this year. Meanwhile, many defensive lines have regressed from last year, such as the Lions.

I'd love for you to name 16 defensive lines you'd rather have than ours.

The O line should dominate the D line overall. With exceptions like Hardy. So nothing to see there.

To be blunt outside of Hardy no one on the D line has proven ANYTHING. It is all potential. Now as the young guys learn and get more comfortable going up against a top O line there should be improvement. It there has not been any or very little in two weeks then I would start to get a little worried.

Just some thoughts on Brouddus questions

- Since they cant tackle its hard to comment on Randle, but everything Ive heard is saying he looks like a different back then last year.

- They had Cory White lined up as a Nickle LB and made a pick there. He may not be higher then a 5th CB but I think he will get plenty of snaps all over the D.

- Talk of competition for Leary isnt because he is subpar, its because Collins is a top 15 talent. Its gonna take alot for Leary to hold him off, and its gonna take alot for Collins to overtake him. That battle is gonna rage all through camp

- Early word is that Gregory is struggling VS Smith, Free and Weems and that lack of pass rush moves is the culprit. Marinelli being a DL specialist, I think he can have fee more go to moves by September. So I don'tthink its too concerning

I think Lawrence can give Free trouble throughout camp. He is a natural RDE flipped to the other side, and it looks like he has worked hard in the offseason both in body and technique.

Like Marty B, I think Escobar is a good player. What a stupid draft pick though.

Especially considering that we liked Leveon Bell and Bell was a pick or two after.

I can really say maybe just one and that's the Rams DL. I think we have so much more potential then Miami, KC, Seattle. Rams DL is starting to age some with Long but still with Quinn and Donald they are tough

That's a good question...

Hmm better than Dallas...

-LA Rams
-Bills
-Jets
-Dolphins
-Seattle
-Texans

I'm sure there are others... but it's not like there are that many.

With JPP having his issues... I wouldn't take any other defensive line in the NFC East.

I think Free is very good protecting the outside. Gregory is likely to try and live out there. Free will kill him until he learns to set the inside up and develop some inside moves including the bull rush. He could create problems for Free and even Smith with something like a Jim or Joe twist.
