If the writing was already on the wall, not resigning Marion was the spotlight that lit it up and made it impossible to ignore. Reading about him signing with the Dolphins was one of those "remember where I was" moments in Cowboy's history. If we couldn't afford the Brock Marion's of the world just who the hell was going to play defense?

At least we may have finally filled that spot, 17 years later...

My remember where I was moment was when I was sitting in the living room and heard on SportsCenter that Russell Maryland and Larry Brown had both signed with Oakland. For some reason I just knew the dynasty was over. Neither were superstars but we needed both of them and those two were too many pieces to lose combined with the others.

Always liked Brock. Him and Woodson made a great combo at safety. .......wish we had that again

So right. I loved that combo too. The team has never replaced those players. I have a good feeling about Jones and hopefully they get somebody to play next to him and finally get some playmakers at safety. It's been too long

IIRC he was extremely fast for safety and may have been one of the fastest players on the team. I think the effort to re-sign him was low because he wanted big time money and FS was not a linchpin position like it is today.

Brock Marion? He was a 4.7 40 guy. He had very good instincts, and was a smart player. Not a top athlete by any means.

I don't think he was at the combine coming out of Nevada-Reno. The draft gurus likely didn't have a accurate time on him. I think ourlads had a 4.63.
