Brock Purdy on why he took a team friendly contract

asking for a paycut is not the same thing as taking a slightly lesser massive raise. speaking for myself only, i bypassed a raise to prevent a coworker from being laid off. and i wasn’t making annually what dak makes in a game

I once got a 35k raise, but I negotiated a raise for all of my 18 assistants. My last job, I took a 27k pay cut, to be closer to my dad....but, by that time my retirement annuity was already set. We all have our reasons. His are none of my business.

No one's talking about another man's money. Only comments are strictly related to the salary cap hits from his enormous contract. And that is strictly related to wanting to win a super bowl.

Lol! Salary cap is a myth, we had money left last year, is it up to dak whether Jerry uses it or not?

Was Brady a "system" quarterback? And he always took less money because he was intelligent enough to know he needed help to win championships. He never had to be the "highest paid at his position". And he also was about winning instead of "building his brand" so I guess the comparison is wasted on the majority of today's athletes.

I understand the point, but when the same boss hasn't produced a championship in 20-plus years with several other quarterbacks before you, then why should you take less in the name of winning? Do you think any of the players on this team think, "If I'd just take a little less money, Jerry will do what it takes to win a championship"? I'm pretty sure they know by now that he didn't do it when they were making less money.

If I believed I was on a team that was going to do whatever it takes, I might be willing to take less. If my boss came up to me and said we will bring in this employee to help make us a champion if you'd be willing to take this much less per year, I'd definitely consider it.

It's kind of like Micah talking about taking less if Dallas did what it took to bring in Myles Garrett. Dallas wasn't going to do that, so why should Micah take less?

The brotherhood got a lot of QBs and other players huge contracts, including Purdy. He should not have said it, I agree with that....but, it's real and I'm sure those players know it. Everytime someone breaks the bank, they are happy knowing their time is coming. Fans are the only ones that don't get it

I'd much rather have Purdy as my QB than Dak.

I'd also much rather have Purdy's contract counting against my books.

We are a year later and Dak's contract is still nearly 10% higher than the next guy. For everyone that said that's what the market said to pay him, that was laughably wrong.

One of the worst contracts in NFL history (not counting the old rookie contracts before they reigned that in a bit).

Purdy was lucky to get what he did with the numbers he put up and ending up 6-9. He was in no position to play hardball. He stunk do bad in one game he was pretty much benched.

THIS. Timing is everything. We waited to sign Dak and he goes out and came in second in MVP voting so we had to pay king ransom.

This was Dak's stats in 2023.
Dak Prescott had a passer rating of 105.9 with 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in 17 games in 2023. Which may have been the best year of his career stats wise.

I think many who worry about it just believe that we're being held back by the salary cap. They don't see the cap as fluid and believe we can't afford to do what it takes to win because of contracts like Dak's.

I don't worry about what players make because it's generally what the market says they are worth at the time. I don't see any owner going, you're worth this much, but we're going to pay you more.

Overall, my issue with Dak isn't on the field or with him as a person. Its his financial "get my bag" attitude that has cost the team.

What happened while Dak was criminally underpaid on a rookie contract? Did Jerry relinquish the reigns to a real GM? Did the Cowboys Front Office make Howie Roseman type roster moves for success when they had Dak on the cheap?

Texas has no state income tax so he's making much less than Dak despite beating Dak in the playoffs and taking his team to the Super Bowl which Dak has never accomplished.
