Brockers - Another Option

It seems that Brockers is going to be drafted based primarily on potential. Would his college production cause him to be drafted in the 1st round?

I say draft for potential in the later rounds.

He has the potential to be a JAG 3-4 DE. That's about it.

I think playing for LSU carries a lot of weight. If Billy Wynn played for LSU and Brockers played for Boise St. I think their draft positions would be completely switched.

I like Brockers. He's got elite size for the 3-4 DE position, was fairly productive (but even more disruptive) as a first year starter in the SEC, has tons of room for growth while still being capable of contributing right away, and plays hard (no motor issues). We also have a huge need at the position.

He isn't my first choice... I still think I'd rather Barron or DeCastro over him... but I'm at the point where I wouldn't be upset about him at 14. Unlike Poe, I can actually see Brockers developing into what his ceiling is, or close to it.

I don't at all think it's outside the realm of possibility that he's an elite run stuffer on the edge who notches 6 sacks/year and is disruptive overall by collapsing the pocket and getting those long arms up into passing lanes. That's worth the 14th pick to me.

Probably a ton of truth in that. For instance, it has been brought up that if Brockers had played anywhere else in the country that he would have played all three downs.

I do worry that LSU D-lineman get WAY overrated though...

I have absolutely no doubt about Brockers' potential. I think a beast on the defensive line would be a huge plus for this team. I do worry that he won't be enough of a pass rusher though.

Brockers is bigger then Spears is now......dont know much about him other then "experts" saying he has potential, but if dallas takes him I'm sure they did there homework.

Brockers: 6'5 322 35" arms

Spears also played like 2 years more than Brockers has at this point. No telling how beastly Brockers would've been in a couple years at LSU.

I've said it before...if you only look at stats, we never select DeMarcus Ware whose final year in a weak division was not impressive for stats.

Brockers is going to be a beast who changes the line of scrimmage, who commands double-teams, who plays in the backfield...for a 3-4 DL, he changes the game and improves the defense without double digit sacks or 100 tackles.

He can also move inside when we pass rush with a 4-man line.

I think fans will love Brockers when they see what he brings, and by the time he turns 23-24, he will be an absolute beast.

That said, I still think our board probably looks like this:
1. Cox
2. Barron
3. Brockers

I guess I should clarify. I distinguish between "physical" and "athletic."

From a "physical standpoint" = height, weight, length, strength

From an "athletic standpoint" = speed, agility, quickness

I saw an interesting comparison of Brockers and Cox today reviewing their games against Alabama. Brockers was doubled-teamed 30 times in his game while Cox was only double-teamed 8 times. Brockers value lies not as much in his own stats as it is in his ability to take on the double team to allow others to make the play.

Brockers may not even be an option at 14. I've seen a couple of reports today stating that multiple teams in the top ten have interest in him.
