The wife broke her ankle{tibia} the other day and the Dr said out of all the breaks you could have this is the most simplistic?
He set the bone and put it in the cast with no surgery and projected a recovery time of 8-12 weeks.
A few questions I have because this is uncharted territory for both of us.
Is rehab usually required?
The 12 week estimate seems high but what does this mean? Full recovery is 12 weeks? Cant walk again until 12 weeks?
Besides the meds and keeping the leg elevated is anything you can do to speed the recovery, etc?

For sure rehab it. Get sterngth back in it.
Don't do nothing while it's mending.
Ask what to do to get area around it and same leg in general stronger.

Weight-bearing bone and broken on the low end............take it slowly. Rehab when it is mended but not sooner.

So what if any exercises can you do while its mending? The Doc said to be immobile while having your leg elevated so im guessing leg lifts or leg circles while laying on your backside? Anything else?

Would need to see the x-rays, but most distal tibial fractures are not simple, though surgery is often not necessary. This the large weight-bearing bone, and must be fully healed before attempting exercise. The bone should be healed in 8 weeks, then the muscle atrophy and loss of strength from immobilization can be carefully addressed over the subsequent 4 weeks. Therefore she should be back to normal in 12 weeks.

A simple fracture would be the common distal fibular fracture, which often accompanies a typical foot-inversion lateral ankle sprain.
This is not a weight bearing bone; some noteable fractures of this kind have occurred in football games without the player even sitting out (Jack Youngblood).

Very sorry to hear that. Getting ready for the holidays will be rough.

Refer to Dez thread. Ankle, foot, thigh... 6 on one....half a dozen on the other.
