Broken Head Coaches accepting demotions with other teams

What do you all think of the head coach who gets fired, broken mind body and soul. Then goes scrounging around for coordinator or position jobs?

I got no issues with it. Some guys are better cut out to be OCs in the first place, and it takes failing at the HC gig to make that obvious.

I have no problem with it.

They know they are lucky to be getting paid ridiculous amounts of money to be involved in a childs game.


I would definitely put my ego aside and go make a high salary somewhere else.

I think ex-Head Coaches make brilliant coordinators. Most got HC jobs because they are brilliant coordinators. When they return to coordinator after being a failed HC they have an additional understanding/perspective of the game that makes them better.

I think it is great experience to have a Coordinator who used to be a HC because they understand what their HC is going through resulting in them being better at their job. Not to mention the great money that goes with it.

That's basically my ideal OC and DC. They stay around awhile and offer an opportunity for continuity. Marinelli's not getting a HC gig again after Detroit.

It's the young coaches without any blemishes on them that get snapped up as soon as you start having a little success.

Always been like this so not what's your point? Wade Phillip's is the perfect example of not being a good HC but an awesome DC.

broken would be a guy who gets fired, while still relatively young and never works in the NFL again

I think the best coaches have a passion for the game. Jobs come and go and maybe your love for the game has peaks and valleys, but you always want to be around it and if you are fortunate, leave your mark on the game and those that play it for generations to come. It's the greatest sport in the world in my opinion.

Yep

This thread should be deleted. There are many examples where it has worked out well for former HC's taking a OC or DC position.

Norv Turner, Dom Capers, and Todd Haley just to name three more former HC's that had great success returning to a coordinator role.
