The Denver Broncos and cornerback Champ Bailey are engaged in contract talks, The Denver Post reported Wednesday.

Bailey, 32, recently competed in his 10th Pro Bowl in 12 NFL seasons -- a record for cornerbacks -- after a campaign in which he made 45 tackles and two interceptions. He will be eligible for unrestricted free agency once the NFL and the players union agree to a new collective bargaining agreement.

"He's a guy we have strong feelings about," coach John Fox told The Post. "We've had some dialogue there. There have been discussions.

Just read on PFT that he isn't thrilled with the current offer, and they are claiming he has put his house on the market.

I wouldn't be thrilled signing a 32+ year old CB to a fat and lengthy contract. ;)

2 INTs last year. I think Allan Ball had more INTs than that. :laugh2:

I agree I think it gets risky when you start handing out long and expensive contracts to players over 30.

Oh yes because solely judging cornerbacks on interceptions is the best way to judge them

In that case, Asomugha must be terrible. 11 INTs in 8 years? That's an average of 0.0859375 interceptions per game!!!!! What a bum!!!

that is the same school of thought that gets Dangelo Hall sent to the pro bowl.

Folks! When will you learn. Lets just give Akwasi Owusu-Ansah a chance!!!

It will be interesting to see how Ryan looks at him. He primarly played CB in college at 6'1" and good speed 4.33 40 if Ryan will see him as a CB or S

Apparently talk didn't go so well. He's more then likely leaving.

YAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!! :):)

Patrick Peterson goes 2nd overall now.

By re-signing Bailey, Denver might very well bump Peterson closer to us in the draft. Many mocs out there have the LSU corner going to Denver at #2. I doubt he would get by San Fran at #7 but the 9ers need D line and pass rushing help almost as bad as corner. They might be willing to go the direction of Quinn, Miller or Jordan (Fairley, Dareus and Bowers will likely off the board by then) possibly dropping Peterson in our lap.

Although it's a long shot that Peterson slides all the way to us, here's hoping Denver and Bailey re-marry and increase the odds.

PS. I'm not in favor of us signing Bailey to play safety.

It would be a risky signing due to his age but I'd do it. I think he'd bring great intangibles to that secondary. He's a proven All-Pro CB and could be in the Hall of Fame someday. Just by being around him and his work ethic in training camp and practice everyday, I think it would do wonders for youngsters like Jenkins and Scandrick. We haven't had a presence like that in the secondary since Darren Woodson

I don't want to learn. I want to feel comfortable that Dallas has repaired the secondary.

I don't care to wish upon a star this season. Dallas tried giving Alan Ball a chance and it failed miserably.

AOA was/likely still is too raw for me to feel comfortable with giving him a chance as the only real plan.

I don't see why people are saying that signing Bailey can move Peterson down. If you have the chance to draft a guy as highly rated at a position you need and think a 32 year old CB (not so much his age but his mileage) can be a reasonable substitute to the point where you don't draft that one player, I think you're making a mistake.

If Denver needs CB help, they need it. A short-term contract to Bailey isn't going to change that. They are not close to competing and in the long run having a CB like Peterson makes that team stronger.
