Dallas Cowboys linebacker Keith Brooking owes nearly $2 million for loans he has not repaid in Georgia, according to a lawsuit filed in federal court.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Brooking owes Wells Fargo almost $2 million for two loans he received 3 ½ years ago. Wells Fargo alleges that Brooking and his wife Holly have shifted assets to avoid repaying the loan. They owe $1,996,224.73, not including late fees, attorney’s fees and costs, per the lawsuit.

“Upon information and belief, beginning in 2008, K. Brooking realized he would not be able to meet his obligations to his creditors, including Wells Fargo. K. Brooking therefore acted to fraudulently transfer his individual wealth and assets,

For a minute there I thought he might have co-signed on something for Dez:laugh2:

Replace "Brooking" with "Bryant", and this is a 10+ page thread.

This really illustrates how dumb the majority of athletes are or how dumb we are as a society to put them on such a pedestal.

For every Aikman and Staubach that can manage their wealth, there are a hundred TO's, Brookings and Dez Bryants that I wouldnt trust with a book of food stamps.

Brooking isn't a franchise player nor our first round pick...

How immature.

Bryant needs to grow up and pull his pants up.

Oh sorry, Brooking.

Brooking’s agent Pat Dye Jr. vehemently denied the charges and stated Brooking and his wife will defend themselves in the lawsuit.
There is a shock.

This. Bryant is being counted on to be a big part of this team's future. He has all the ability in the world but has shown immaturity which is a concern. Brooking has likely played his last game as a Cowboy. I care much more about what Dez does than has-been Brooking.

Major difference.

Brooking doesn't have a history of this (as far as I know).

If this did happen to Bryant, it would just be par for the course according to his track record.

So because Dez is a 1st round pick in 2010 he is held to a higher standard financially than a vet who was a first round pick in 1998? Makes sense

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Keith Brooking is accused of trying to hide some of his personal assets so that the bank couldn't seize them after he failed to make good on a loan.

I really prefer the way TMZ describes it, though. According to TMZ, Brooking is "the mastermind in a diabolical scheme to screw Wells Fargo out of $2 MILLION," which makes him sound like the Dr. Evil of the NFL. I like to think that when fellow linebacker Bradie James is lined up in the wrong position, Brooking yells, "Bradie DON'T!"

But according to the suit, Brooking "realized he would not be able to meet his obligations" to Wells Fargo ... and secretly embarked on a "systematic effort to hinder, delay and defraud" the bank.
WF claims Brooking began to hide all of his substantial assets, including property in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina ... so the bank couldn't go after his homes to satisfy the debt.

According to the lawsuit, the plan was simple ... Brooking simply transferred the deeds out of his name to various "insiders, affiliates and relatives."
So the plan was simple, but Brooking also masterminded a diabolical scheme? Come on,

TMZ. I'm thinking about hiring Keith Brooking to help me break into the Iranian Gold Reserve, but you guys can't decide if he's Charlie Croaker or if he just did something relatively simple. Help me out.
A representative for Brooking says there's no evidence that Brooking transferred any properties and says the allegations are unfounded. We wish him the best with his legal troubles.

Be honest. At what time have you ever had any interest whatsoever in Brooking's personal financial situation?

He was the 12th overall pick, so he was someone's franchise player at some point.

It's really a moot point because I don't have interest in Dez's personal life either.

But when he's not paying his tab on $1 million worth of jewelry, that becomes news that the general public is made aware of.

The fact Brooking owes $2 million in upaid loans makes is newsworthy.

We aren't talking about guys forgetting to return library books here.

The difference is Dez was OUR pick and more importantly a franchise player. Brooking is neither. Dez is expected to be one of the faces of the franchise for years. Brooking isn't. If you can't see the difference, then I don't know what to tell you.

well I think Dez deserves more leeway than Brooking because of the age/maturity difference.

Some people arn't understanding that the big difference is what each means to the team right now.. not in 1998. lol

Brooking isn't even currently on the team.. so its really not even our concern at this point.
