Garrett apparently liked him before he went to Chicago. Think he went to the Cleveland some time after and has recently been cut.

Had a bad year last year in Chicago.

Would have really helped us n the line of scrimmage last year though.

So do Andre Smith and Rosario.

I disagree on Smith - I think he has a lot of potential as a great blocker who can contribute as a receiver too. That catch against the Bengals was really good.

I hope we waive Rosario with the pickup of Edgar Jones and churn the bottom of the roster.

IMO, 4 CBs is not enough anymore now that 3 CBs are often needed for more than half of the defensive snaps.

Smith will provide the push from TE at the line of scrimmage. We no longer need a player like Davis, and Smith is younger, cheaper and went through camp with us.

As an aside, I really do like Smith. Just think about the odds he beat. He came to a team that was over crowded at TE and competed against an All pro, a fresh second round pick with terrific hands, a 6th round surprise who is oozing with athleticism, and a free agent pick-up who is a special teams ace and the pet of the special teams coach.

Smith made a team with all of that cut some player they liked in order to keep a 5th (five!) tight ends. He must've been beyond solid.

Kudos to him.
