Coordinator Kyle Shanahan and quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains are out as the Browns’ top two offensive coaches in the latest shakeup by the organization that is allergic to stability.
The Browns have not confirmed the moves in an official statement.
Shanahan had a previously
scheduled interview for the Buffalo Bills head coach position on Thursday and had expressed unhappiness with pressure from non-football executives to play quarterback Johnny Manziel, according to a report by Cleveland.com.
Shanahan won’t be out of
work long. Reports have linked him to potential coordinator jobs with his father, Mike, and Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Both are up for several head coaching vacancies.
Loggains was a Manziel backer, but his days were numbered when he disclosed the inner workings of the Browns’ draft room that resulted in Manziel’s marriage to the Browns in May. In an interview with an Arkansas
radio station a week after the draft, Loggains revealed that owner Jimmy Haslam gave the instruction to make the trade to acquire Manziel with the 22nd pick of the first round of the draft.
It’s possible there will be more changes on offense.
