Rico’s gone...but we always have the memories. LOL! :laugh:You’d have thought that guy was a shoe in for Canton the way some fans gushed about how great he looked against undrafted free agents in the fourth qtr of preseason games. When the real bullets began to fly in real games, mysteriously, somehow he didn’t look as good.

This forum was convinced he was the second coming of Tony Gonzalez.

He almost reached Adrian Hamilton status.
Adrian Hamilton got a Super Bowl Ring with the Ravens 1 more than Romo and Witten. Same for Martelus Bennett who has something Cowboy fans have not seen since 1995...a Super Bowl ring.

I think why fans are bugged out about Rico is that he did not get opportunities on the field to show you yes or no. The Raiders TE, Waller, is another example of patience and opportunity.

Gathers will probably go into oblivion. However trust me, someone else will pick him up because they do not grow freak athletes like him on trees. I wanted him converted to OL/DL before they let him go. I guess that skill and strategy foresight left with Jimmy Johnson (Darren Woodson) and Tom Landry (Rayfield Wright, Pat Donovan, etc.).

Career over. Just go overseas to try to have a pro basketball career. He can make a living being the LeBron of the Chinese league

wait wasn't there 3,484 posts a couple of years back on why Rico was being wasted by this coaching staff. and the coaches had no clue what they had. he was supposed to be the secret weapon inside the redzone using his basketball rebounding skills to out muscle everyone and catch TDs....what happened to those people

I don't understand the comparison between Hamilton and Romo/Witten. Is Hamilton somehow special because he played all of 2 games with the Ravens the year they won a SB? What exactly did he do to help them earn that SB ring? I'm sure either Romo or Witten could go be backups to a team like the Patriots to get a ring and not actually do anything on the field.

The Baltimore Ravens were very patient with Waller. He missed a large portion of 2015 due to injury. He missed 4 games in 2016 due to suspension. He missed all of 2017 due to suspension. They finally released him to start 2018 and kept him on their practice squad. What did all their patience get them? Two career TDs? He still hasn't scored a TD with the Raiders and is now 27 years old. It isn't as if he is on the verge of being a top 10 tight end. He is also another failed drug test from another suspension.

What foresight is needed with respect to Rico at this time? He is a good athlete, but he is not a freak athlete. He can barely handle the blocking required from a tight end. There is no way he could do the job of an offensive lineman. I don't think Landry or Johnson would get anything out of Rico. His heart isn't in football and that is okay. He has his life. Now 2 teams have moved on for him. Maybe he will get another opportunity.
