Kind of on the weird side. They're keeping him, so I'm guessing he wanted to step away from being the HC? Now why he waited until right before the draft is what has my curiosity searching for a juicy story.
From what I've heard, the coaching staff and FO personnel largely remain in place. So FA period proceeded as normal- and thus will the draft evaluation too.

Arians and Bowles had been working on a succession plan.
Good to see Bowles is gettin a shot with Brady at the helm….so a real shot.

He didn’t retire he moved to the front office and Brady commented something about thanks and spend more time with your family….so is a front office some kind of cakewalk?
It’s got to be tremendously less grueling than coaching

Was there some type of tension between the two that I'm not privy about?
The first season Brady was in TB, Arians didn't hold back on his open criticism and didn't give him the GOAT treatment.

Arians has the rep that he can get cantankerous and today's players like to be catered to make sure their feelings aren't hurt.

I was surprised he came out of retirement because he was going the way of Parcells, not liking the coaches being the tail now.
