Is this guy bad because he's lazy, is he bad because he doesn't care, is he bad because he's not been taught the position properly?

Does anyone know anything about the coaches at Maryland?

If the guy's lacking because he's been misused, we've got Hudson Houck.

If he's lazy or doesn't care, I want nothing to do with him.

Well, for starters, Maryland doesn't have the best coaching staff in the world.

Secondly, his biggest knocks are his work ethic, and he also just doesn't have that many starts under his belt. Something absurd like only 17 starts.

If we can get Iupati, I'd rather get him than Campbell.

I'd take Iupati over Campbell in a heartbeat, but I'm about 96% sure Iupati will not make it to us.

If the guy has bad work ethic, that can be forcibly changed but never totally taken out of him. I just don't understand how a guy can be that athletic but have subpar work ethic. You aren't born 300+lbs and run a 4.7 40.

Sure you can be. Some people are just natural, genetic freaks.

this guy just screams bust to me

I posted the same thing about a month ago.

Too much risk in Round 1 for me.

I think the perception of Maryland (having lived 20 minutes away from campus my whole life) is that it's just not a pro-style program, no matter how much/how little success they may have from year to year, whatever coaches they have (although the staff they have now is probably the best they've had in a long time), and whatever talent they may end up with--never mind that they play in the ACC, which has always been a basketball (and even lacrosse) conference first. There aren't any burning couches when the football team beats Duke.

So, unlike the top tier programs, even the most talented guys don't come out ready to fit right in and play right away, and you can't know whether the perceived potential is even achievable--which is usually the knock against guys like Campbell right off the bat.

It also doesn't help that some guys like Heyward-Bey come out too early, get handed too much, and don't perform. Vernon Davis had a great 2009 for the Niners, but it's taken some time to get there--and he seemed like the biggest sure thing Maryland had in a long time.

I guess it depends where he is drafted. I wouldnt touch him in the first round if I were a GM, but somewhere middle to late round two if you believe in your OL coach might not be a horrible risk. His level of play probably warrants more of a pick in the 3rd/4th round area, but he will never last that long due to his physical talent and upside.

I agree with dbair. 2nd round and on the financial risk vs. bust factor is very low.
