The Cowboys No. 1 goal of the offseason: Make the offense more explosive. Amari Cooper will not be with the team much longer and Burks may be too talented to pass on here. The fact that he is from Jerry Jones' and Stephen Jones' alma mater is just a bonus.

The numbers crunchers are killing Burks after his combine performance.

-

Burks’ long speed was not the issue that made his combine performance so concerning. It was his explosiveness and short-area quickness. In the vertical jump, Burks leaped 33 inches, a mark that ranks at the 20th percentile all-time among wide receivers. In the three-cone drill, Burks recorded a time of 7.28 seconds, which ranks at the 8th percentile all-time among wide receivers.

The combination of those two numbers puts Burks in extremely ominous company.

According to Pro Football Reference, there have been 39 wide receivers in combine history to post a vertical jump of 34 inches or less and a three-cone time of 7.25 seconds or more. Of those, only two (Anquan Boldin and Chad Johnson) have gone on to enjoy successful careers, making up 5% of the sample size. The other 37 players have combined for one 1,000-yard season. To put into perspective how poor the group is outside of Boldin and Johnson, its most productive player is first-round bust Kelvin Benjamin.

This is wild. Isn’t Burks similar to DeeBo? I thought I remember media talking about him being a physical runner

Wow. Brugler really is high on Travon Walker. If Dak struggles to get the ball to Amari Cooper as much as he should then what's going to be different with Burks? Get Dak the extra time to make his reads and throw and get the extra push for the run game. Take Green

big difference betweven debo and Burks who is a long strider whereas debo can juke most defenders .

don't hate it.
i'd rather have a&m's og kenyon green but i'd love a big physical receiver like burks.
i like the muma pick...good player.
troy anderson the LB from montana st intrigues as well.

I'm fine with Burks (tape doesn't lie) but they could do way better with the second pick.

Treylon Burks
Overview
Big, smooth and natural, Burks possesses the versatility to operate from wherever you want and get to wherever you need no matter the competition. He's a mismatch receiver combining size, strength and competitiveness similar to the Titans' A.J. Brown, but his speed testing at the NFL Scouting Combine did not meet expectations. Arkansas benefitted by putting the ball in his hands from a variety of alignments and there is no reason to believe NFL play-callers won't benefit from doing the same. The tape is extremely exciting with real NFL skills jumping off the screen, but his potential to become a high-volume, three-level target is a little more cloudy after a relatively disappointing showing at the combine.
Strengths
  • Premium size/speed ratio.
  • Huge hands with rare weight-room power for a wideout.
  • Has size and body control to mismatch cornerbacks.
  • Made 8 catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns against Alabama.
  • Quick and urgent in slipping past press attempts.
  • Releases into route with forward lean and hard push to threaten.
  • Suddenness to turn and present to passer underneath.
  • Smooth for his size when gliding through space.
  • Runs routes with proper leverage and turn acceleration.
  • Access to a second gear when he needs it.
  • Former all-state outfielder with skill to track and snag deep ball.
  • Sells his body out to make the catch.
  • Leaps and plucks it way up the ladder with strong hands.
  • Stiff-arm and build-up speed to make a short catch a long gain.

Random, but I never thought there would be a tackle higher than Neal for this draft.

What a rise in stock for Ekwonu

I called this during the season because the Joneses watched this one player carry the Hogs to their best season in a long time. It was a 2 man show the QB.

They don't care about his Combine, in fact they are glad he is falling.

He is more physical than Samuel at 230lbs and has 10.5" hands and needs 5XL gloves.

Burks isn't a Combine warrior but he is a game day warrior and played hurt a lot last season. He is also a good blocking WR like Samuel.

What he is is what the Cowboys do not have, a physical WR.

Neal is like Jordan Davis, the measurables are off the chart, jaw dropping. But on game day, they do not show that uniqueness.

I’d trade down before going Burks. That would be a terrible pick

I could see them lining him up in the backfield for us.
