Super Bowl 50 will be an epic showcase for a league that built the event into TV's most watched program long ago, so the NFL is sure to get super creative with the golden anniversary game's halftime show, right?

Not so much, according to Billboard Magazine. Bruno Mars, who performed at halftime of Super Bowl XLVIII two years ago, has been asked to perform and curate this year's show, too, a source told the publication.

Should Mars accept the invitation again, the two-time Grammy Award-winning artist's curating is sure to include more performers. Mars played alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers during the Seattle Seahawks' 43-8 rout of the Denver Broncos in February 2014, and they drew a then-record 115.3 million viewers. That mark was surpassed by Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz and, of course, Left Shark this past February.

Mars would be the first repeat headliner since Gloria Estefan, who performed in 1992 and 1999. More recently, rapper Nelly appeared as a guest with both Aerosmith in 2001 and Janet Jackson in 2004.

I didn't even watch the Super Bowl (or any other playoff games) after the way we lost in Green Bay this year.

Bruno Mars is a good choice though. Safe choice for a good show.

Safe choice, but rather shocked as I would have thought Taylor Swift would have been given the nod.

I usually use that 45 minutes to go to the bathroom.

The last time I watched a halftime show was when the mighty Led Zeppelin performed.

Smart. Gets non football fans more reason to watch the game.

I'd rather watch Bruno Samartino.

He put on a good show, but it seems too soon to repeat. Are we running out of good talent?

Yes.

For the NFL's 50th Super Bowl, being the special event they're making it out to be, if I were in charge of selecting the talent, I would try to bring in a mix of acts that span the 50 years. Bruno may be as good a representative as I could find for the current generation, but I wouldn't throw the whole Halftime show to him alone.

Bring the local college marching band in and make halftime 15 minutes long so we can get back to the game.

I thought I read the NFL was going to ask musicians to pay them to do the halftime show. If they asked Bruno back did he have to pay the way Katy Perry did last year? I would assume Bruno has the leverage since he's being requested.
