Do any of you see him playing a role in this defense? He was sort of our spark for two weeks in a row and came out of no where. Why can't he be our 3rd or 4th guy so we can address safety needs.

He's be our 4th cause Scandrick started to come on at the end of last year and will still be our 3.

Unless of course they sign someone else but I think they'll stay pat at corner at this point.

actually, i'm wondering if Ball makes the squad this year at CB?

Newman
Jenkins
Scandrick
J Thomas

then

McCann? I think he's got more upside than Ball at this stage. Plus, assuming we do sign a FS, we've got AOA for depth at that position anyway (and Ball's versatility wouldn't be as important). And AOA could also fill in as a nickel CB if necessary.

I'm hoping McCann makes it and Ball gets released. I see no reason for Ball to be on this team. None.

For sure. Let's be honest with ourselves. We had a sorry corner playing at safety. We were testing our theory that never works back there.

But, again, let's be honest with ourselves. McCann would have played better at safety than ball and I'm willing to bet corner too.

Ball is small and just doesn't cut it as an athlete.

I don't think he makes the team either.

We keep 6 this year, I think.

McCann is a beast on special teams. I think that is his role as a Cowboy.

Cracks me up that people confuse playing safety with playing corner. Ball, was a mess as a safety, as a corner, he was good depth.

McCann meanwhile, made a play (100-yard INT return) but what most people forget was that he was torched all day that game and in subsequent games.

I think McCann is fighting for a spot with the rookie Jason Thomas. The Cowboys have always liked Ball as solid depth as a cornerback. I doubt his troubles playing a new position changed any of that.

The Cowboys already have a pleathora of kick returners, so McCann is going to have to show something as a defensive back.

I'm interested to see if he has improved any from last year. As you said he did get torched a bunch last year. A lot of the time he was in position to make the play but his timing was off by a hair. If anything he's awesome on returns. I was waiting for him to break one during the Detroit game last year (aside from the punt return where he caught everyone napping). He was having one of those days where it looked like it would happen.

Bryan McCann 5-10 189 (I think they are being generous with the height)
Alan Ball 6-1 195

McCann runs like the wind. Ball not so much.

I'm confused about why people keep asking questions about how or if people see guys like McCann and AOA playing roles this year. These are kids with one year under their belt, and fans have only a tenny tiny slice of info to judge on. The bottom line with guys like this is we will have to wait and see because there just isn't anything to make a judgement on at this point.

I don't mean to be harsh - we all want these youngsters to pan out and we all hope to see something positive and hope they can develop quickly, but unfortunately we are just stuck having to wait it out a bit.
