EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Dez Bryant's development might be the best example of Tony Romo's leadership.

Romo has an E.F. Hutton impact on Bryant. When the Dallas Cowboys' quarterback speaks, the receiver listens.
Romo's words -- the criticism shouted on the field and the calmer encouragement on the sideline -- played a critical role in Bryant regaining his composure for crunch time.

Romo yelled at the receiver after Bryant's fumble fortunately rolled out of bounds but basically killed a potential scoring drive early in the fourth quarter. Bryant's only response was to nod his head, knowing Romo was right.

"Oh, it wasn’t good. ‘You’ve got to hold on to the ball!’" Bryant said when asked what Romo told him at the time. "He’s being a leader. He’s exactly right. He chewed me out. That’s what he’s supposed to do. He helped me get my mind back right, and that’s what I did."

C'mon bro. The poor Romo haters have already taken a beating this week. Now you're putting the final nail in the coffin of their favorite fall-back Romo criticism!?!? That's cold.

Then I'm sure they will hate this. lol

Several players approached an obviously distraught Bryant on the sideline after that series, encouraging him to keep his head in the game. Romo's words resonated the most with Bryant.

"Hearing those guys, it makes me feel good that they believe in me and count on me like that," Bryant said. "When I hear Tony say something, it’s a whole different ballgame. It’s a whole different story because I know he counts on me more than anybody. So I had to come. I had to bring it."

What is obvious about Romo haters is that they show up when he loses a game. But, when he wins a good game, they don't even come into a positive thread to at least give him some props! It is tunnel vision of hate that those guys have. And they are "Cowboy fans"?

Man, Dez is growing up right before our eyes! That kid has a future so bright that us fans might need sunglasses before it's all over.

I agree. I have no issue saying Romo made a bad play or a costly int it is what it is but I also think he deserves a lot of credit. He is asked to do a lot more than what I see from many other QB who can rely on a defense to shut someone down late in games or have a consistent run game to close things out. Romo is asked to throw a ton, to run for his life and make the plays and yet has posted what many would consider very good season but because the team accomplishment have not happened it takes the blunt of the criticism.

I have never seen him as a bad guy just an immature guy, given his upbrining that does not come as a shock. However I do think Dez is more concerned about winning than anything else. I don't see him as a ME guy

He's no T.O., that is for sure! When you hear teammates talk about everyone in the locker room loves the dude, he is doing something right.

Even after that backwards fumble while he was sitting on the bench with his head down, a defensive player ( i think Hatcher) even came to console him. That is rare that a defensive player will console an offensive player.

Nice...........I like reading stuff like this.

You tell 'em, Cinco!
ah just hate the Romo haters who can't stand his bad games and do not acknowledge his good games. he's had 6 goods games so far, right?

I hope Romo and this team have a few more shots in the postseason. It would be awesome if they'd win a Super Bowl. They do that and Romo is one of the best in the league instead of being labeled a "choker".

Unlikely but oh how sweet it would be.

Uh,,wrong. The team has had 6 good games.

See, I don't know what math they teach down in Farmers land, but Romo is one of 53 players on the team.

Close your eyes and try counting from 1 to 53...but do it slow, so you can get it right.

After that, I will teach you fractions. Like how the coaches, the trainers, the playing conditions, the other team, home or on the road, the bounce of the ball, etc.

Try that, and if you need some assistance let me know.

I believe Romo may be one of the best things to happen to Bryant.

It sounds like he's a bit of a father-figure to him- and that's not a bad thing.

Good show!

The best part of that article was Romo's words in the huddle before that last drive. When you say that, and then do that, confidence makes it easier to do it next time.

Wow! Great to hear but boy some just can't keep the Romo hater mantra out of their mouths. Worst part lauding Dez when half of you probably wanted him cut for being a cancer, not a young person needing direction... I guess??? But glad to hear he stepped up his game when needed and took direction from his qb.

Remember the offseason thread where people were complaining that Tony had Dez over to his house for dinner, and the consensus was that Tony should have been doing more of that stuff from the get go because he wasn't a very good leader for Dez? I do. That thread was awesome.

Incoming hater comment - "What do you expect his team mate to say about him, of course he's going to speak nice of Romo".

Romo does have great leadership qualities, always has, just people like to ignore it.
