Bryce Young's NFL draft prospects are dogged by questions about his size — and that's about it

Young just might be the best of them all. He's a magician in the pocket and easily one of the most talented throwers in the country. He’s been able to execute whatever throw Alabama’s offense requires of him, and it's a unit coordinated by former NFL head coach Bill O’Brien. Young won the Heisman Trophy last season in just his first year as a starter, with 4,872 passing yards and 47 passing touchdowns to go along with three more scores on the ground. From a skills perspective, Young appears to have all the goods to be a long-term starting quarterback in the NFL.

However, Young’s draft projection isn’t fully agreed upon by analysts. His size (listed at 6-foot, 194 pounds on Alabama’s roster) is going to draw some concern among people who prefer taller, sturdier passers in the pocket. Still, Young appears to offer enough high-level passing traits that translate to the current aesthetic of the NFL game. Young’s legs are a weapon, but his arm is the driving force of what makes him arguably the best quarterback prospect in the 2023 NFL draft.

Great college player, but history has shown us he’ll be going against the odds to be an undersized NFL QB.

Whoever drafts him will have to worry about injury concerns and balls getting swatted at the line left and right.

I’d take Stroud without hesitation over him.

Coming from a Bama fan but this kid is legit and can make something out of nothing when it comes to making plays. His poise is off the charts and nothing can rattle this kid when the odds are stacked against him.

His ability too extend plays keeping his eyes down field is nothing short of amazing at times. Kid is the best QB in college and it's not even close.

Agree. Other than his size I would take him over any Qb coming out of college. He can just do things that others can’t right now.

Who is/was the better prospect between Tua and Young?

Probably fairly similar. Maybe you give Young arm strength / mobility but give Tua accuracy / anticipation.

Case and point - Tua has gotten hurt and hasn’t shown much until this year when he has 2 pro bowl WRs and a great offensive minded HC.

Would you take Tua 1 overall?

i think he’s a clear second to CJ stroud. Like them both though.

Only a handful of little QBs make it. Most don't pan out. For every Drew Brees , Kyler Murray,or Russell Wilson there is Ty Detmer,Timmy Chang,Colt McCoy,Case Keenum, Chase Daniel, Cade McCown, Colt Brennan,Major Harris,Troy White, Kellen Moore,Todd Santos,Kevin Sweeney, Johnny Manziel, etc.

I wonder how many times we see that replay of Young/Alabama TD pass vs LSU? That was an incredible play.

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if he measures in around 5’11 / 185 and slips outside of the top 20/25.

Part A could happen. Part B not a chance. Someone will fall in love and there will be Drew Brees and Russell Wilson comps. A QB on a rookie deal has huge value. Too huge to pass up.

hes average against decent teams. We saw this yesterday. Great runner but average QB.

Shaky O-line play for Bama resulted into Bryce not being able set his feet on most throws and once again his WR didn't do him any favors dropping crucial balls.

LSU defense came to play while Bama's offensive line didn't match their intensity.

The thin build might be more of an issue than height.

Bryce Young 6-0, 194
Kyler Murray 5-10, 207, 9-1/2 hands
Drew Brees 6-0, 213, 10-1/4 hands
Russell Wilson 5'10-5/8, 204, 10-1/4

I wanna see what he officially measures out at.
