I just had an idea. One of our greatest QBs in our history went to Navy. Army is undefeated ATM. He didn't play today's game, but his numbers are pretty good.

Because he's at Army, he probably wouldn't be a high pick given his military obligations. I'm not saying he's guaranteed to be the solution, but, since he'd have to sit at least for 2-3 years behind Dak anyway, maybe we can throw a mid/late round pick and try to get him. Here's his highlights against Rice btw:

Could be a good way to reboot the QB position for us.

Looking for that Staubach magic Rusty? I didn't realize it at the time but that was highly likely a once in a lifetime miracle.

Well why not? Ironically, there is a Navy QB who's also pretty good.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/5081504/blake-horvath

Blake Horvath. He's not bad either. I'll be making a thread involving him too. ..

As odd as it seems, Army is undefeated, and Navy has a good team too. Given the culture this team has, maybe it's time we go back to military QBs. If nothing else, they could make good backup QBs and could be QBs who can create a much stronger culture than what we have now. So, why not? For a 5-7th round pick? Why not try for a little Staubach magic?

Given the many needs on this team QB is at the bottom of my draft day wish list given the fact that they wasted a 4 on Lance and Rush is still here . QB 3 should be an UDFA .

Sure, and heck, if he slips into the UDFA territory, he becomes a better option. Also, I'm not advocating for him to be a first round pick. I'm just mentioning him and the Navy QB because they might be good 6th round options.

They say lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place, but it does. So why not to the Cowboys?

Exactly, and it'd be a slightly different type of lightning with this being an Army QB, but why not? Also, I have a thread up about the Navy QB too. This year's Army Navy game should be a great game. Why not see if we can get Staubach magic again? For a 5th or 6th round pick? Why not?

The Army QB is special. only six foot tall but Brees was the same height and look how long he lasted and will probably be in the HOF. And he is listed at 221 lbs so he is VERY solid and should be able to take the punishment.
BUT there is that commitment. but it is something to think about. Use a 7th on him so we have his rights.

Uh, no dude. Riley Leonard will never make it in the NFL. He simply is not a good enough passer.
HE has gotten better this year but that is all

Definitely, but Daily comes with the, in our case, benefit of military obligation related to being at West Point. This means he can be on a reserve contract while Dak plays out his contract while he does his military obligation (unless Jerry can get him either a waiver or can get him into a reserve role in a few years). Meanwhile, he's a rare circumstance where a late round pick can change a culture because of the fact he's a military school QB. He won't be a top pick because of his obligations. This is also a rare circumstance because both Army and Navy have good teams.

Well, or even a 6th. The military commitment is actually a benefit to us. While Dak plays out his contract, he is technically part of the team, but there's probably a special role where he's technically not on the 53 because of his obligations. This makes him or Horvath of Navy valuable to us. Plus, with his skills, he could be a good option for us. Plus, he has leadership skills by virtue of the fact he's probably going to be an Army officer. On top of that, he would probably command respect from his teammates, circa Roger Staubach. It's the perfect reboot! Plus, if we are America's Team, shouldn't we have a military QB?

In essence, we would probably be getting a rather high draft pick QB late because of his obligations. Then, we can let him do his military obligations for a period of time like the Cowboys did with Roger. Then, when he's finished his commitment or gets a waiver from the DOD, then we might have ourselves a QB who can lead this team in a better way than we've had in years.

We will have a QB who knows all about discipline from A to Z and really knows about the value of teamwork.

Exactly, and a guy who can lead, and who can command people. Plus, with a late round pick, we wouldn't give up much for him to try. I think it's as win-win as it gets. Plus, Jerry can probably get either Daily or Horvath can work with Staubach on quarterbacking in the NFL during their service.

Kid is from a tiny 2A HS in Abernathy, TX just near Lubbock. Amazing.

Yeah, and he's gotten Army to an undefeated record with players that are not likely to have NFL ambitions due to the requirements. This puts him in perfect position for us to take him, especially since we have to have Dak for a few more years, so, he can do his military obligations while Dak plays out his contract.
