Byron Jones, entering his fourth season with the Cowboys, finds his career in Dallas in limbo because he hasn’t made many big plays.

If Jones moves to cornerback perhaps that will change. Or, maybe, new secondary coach and passing defense coordinator Kris Richard will have a positive impact on Jones.

The former Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator likes cornerbacks in the 6-0, 200-pound range and Jones fits that criteria.

The Cowboys could play Jones and Chido Awuzie on the outside and Jourdan Lewis in the slot since Orlando Scandrick isn’t all that interested in coming back for another season.

Xavier Woods and Jeff Heath could handle the safety spots, if Dallas doesn’t add a safety in the draft.

Now, you could argue that Jones’ versatility has been a curse. He has been jack of all trades master of none, which has ******** his progress.

It’s the point folks use when discussing defensive linemen Tyrone Crawford, who has played various positions on the defensive line.

We’re three years into Jones’ career and the Cowboys have no clue whether he’s a safety or cornerback.

Pathetic.

At the end of this season, the ambiguity must be removed and the Cowboys must know whether Jones has any kind of future in Dallas.

It’ll probably depend on whether this is the season Jones finally makes some plays.
